My mother used to fry fish every Good Friday. Now, my sister carries on this tradition, and the smoke detector literally goes off every few minutes. It’s my job to fan it with a flat piece of cardboard. Kind of hilarious and nostalgic at the same time.

My college math professor gave me a passing grade when I should have failed. He knew I wanted to be a writer and college math wasn’t necessary for me. Nice guy and a great act of mercy. 🙃

Sure, agents need to love it to a certain extent to feel excited about investing in an author, but these slightly customized rejections often sound like one who’s expecting love at first sight which is hard to take seriously since it’s not a reasonable measure for business.

And if you don’t apply, let it fly. The criticism is hardly ever meant for all agents across the board. It’s not like authors, agents and editors meet up often to discuss different industry issues in search of solutions. While twitter isn’t perfect, it’s what’s available.
