@eyeslasho Progressives acknowledging DEI is bad is a win, but attention must be paid to their solution. There is too much at stake, and acknowledging their critics were correct is anathema. The default will be “real DEI hasn’t been tried” and “it will work if I am in charge.”

@Aristos_Revenge Well put, I have this same experience, guys I LAN’d with 25 years ago. It’s fun but there’s a depressing element that if I had their slightly different experience I’d be frozen in time as well. We were made of the same stuff back then.

@GrayConnolly The Inchon landing was smart, provoking China into the war, trying to get his way by talking to the press, and publicly putting the Commander in Chief in boxes over nuclear authority was not. I put the most weight on the last one. He had a lot of latitude otherwise.

@Aristos_Revenge The exogenous preferences of sexually dimorphic species, past its evolutionary function. Ironic that it should lead to a liberal space faring desire to find space aliens, but there are none. This happens to every life form in the universe, it is the great filter.

@wanyeburkett There is also the prospect of whether future raises are likely. The inflation will continue. If you’re ahead now, people rightly feel it’s temporary and they must horde their nuts before they’re behind again. It’s an unpleasant anxiety.

@feelsdesperate It’s just how human organizations are. Ibn Khaldun noticed in the 14th century, eventually big groups become saturated with free riders, they lose dynamism, act dumb and fall apart. He was looking at generational effects but HR departments can swing it in 10 years.

@eyeslasho We built guarded bike lanes here and the cyclists still choose to obstruct road traffic and selectively trigger crosswalks. People drive bad, ride bikes bad, and walk bad. There’s no panacea for human behavior, you just have to accept certain risks / consequences.

@kitten_beloved US advertisers over-represent minority groups because there is little cost to be “inclusive.” Minorities appreciate the representation while it goes unnoticed by white consumers, except for men who typically don't influence purchases. Different factors go into the EU ad trends.

@SaysSimulation @DrClaytonForre1 “Our power comes from the perception of our power.” The Soviet Union was toast by the 80’s, but continued to act like a superpower because it was perceived as one. When anything erodes those perceptions, as Chernobyl did to the Soviets, reality becomes undeniable and it ends.

@6Voodoo Good summary. I would add Iran also had the parameter of not being overly successful. They wanted some drones / missiles to get through, but not so many to be disproportional. The US/UK helped more than expected, so they settled for a propaganda victory, though much was learned.

@wanyeburkett I believe it’s an example of “gradually then suddenly.” A cascade of office vacancies, the closure of support businesses, and then reduced services permitting copper theft seems abrupt compared to the long trends which was more a managed downsizing.

@Partisan_O I think of the saeculum, the time period until the last participant of an event dies. In this case the aged liberals who promoted ruinous policies in the 60’s and 70’s are still around. They can’t face a lifetime of failure, and will do anything to hide the fact before they go.

@Partisan_O It’s so overt, it’s covert. They found they can do the unbelievable, as nobody outside those intended will hear about it. To normies it’s literally incredible. They’ll go from “that’s fake” to “there must be more to it” if you show them. Persist and they’ll lose your number.

@feelsdesperate A decade ago HR would simply put their thumb on the scale for optics, everyone understand a homogenous dept. was a problem. The sinecures have simply grown out of control, and a jargony bureaucracy was necessary to suppress dissent. CEOs have colluded to accept it as a cost.

@SaysSimulation Same if he bailed on a guy friend who wanted to play XBOX instead of go to a party and meet girls. He should miss it for friendship? It’s a girl myth that men are always waiting. Sure he was her friend, but his goal became a relationship and she was clear she wasn’t interested.
