Accidental fare evasion:
- Forgetting to tap when boarding streetcar
- Running out of $ on Presto
- Added $ to Presto but it's not been 24 hrs
- Forgetting to tap for a transfer
- Exceeding 2 hr limit not on purpose
Councillor Lily Cheng says the difference between fare evasion and getting a parking ticket is a question of intent. People choose not to pay their fares, but with parking tickets maybe they just ran out of time on the meter.

As an Asian woman who lives downtown and transits/bikes/walks everywhere, the greatest threat to my safety is men driving pickup trucks, and it's not even close.
I ride the subway a lot. Not a week goes by that a mentally ill person doesn't get on and terrorize the entire car—especially women, especially Asians. Usually the men just sit there and pretend it's not happening. It's a disgrace that working New Yorkers have to live like this.

But to you/the OP's point, many are very critical of vaccines. Anti-vaxxers argue that they're bad for you & your natural immune system can handle it, etc. But back in the day babies/kids died of diseases that we basically eradicated with vaccines. Hence low life expectancies.

Pretty wild that our hospitals are (almost) all charities instead of being owned by the government. They have to pay lots of staff to do fundraising (asking rich people for money) instead of simply taxing them (telling rich people to give money). Very inefficient!

But I regularly see people getting humiliated for walking through an open streetcar door & not endangering anyone's life.

I'm not saying that one shouldn't strive to change fucked up laws. Every preventable death is a tragedy. But for most women I know, the fear of dying by murder GREATLY outstrips the fear of dying by car crash, even though they are 34x more likely to die in a car crash.
