Completed my @acadience training today! It’s so important that Ontario teachers know how to identify students that are at risk for reading difficulties and determine the skills to target for instructional support. #onted #righttoread

I’m sure Kim’s new YouTube channel will be incredibly beneficial for anyone who wants to learn more about structured literacy and the science of reading!
Show AND Tell! New YouTube channel modeling explicit reading instruction!! As teachers, we’re expected to deliver explicit instruction, model skills, and provide corrective feedback for our students. Yet who is modelling effective practices for us?! Inspired by Zach Groshell’s book “Just Tell Them” about the power of explicit instruction and Angie Hanlin’s new book “It’s Possible”, an inspiring book highlighting the importance of strong leadership, science-based instruction and the power of building teacher knowledge and capacity, I’ve decided to start a new YouTube channel called: Show AND Tell! Show and Tell aims not only to tell teachers WHAT needs to be taught (ex. letter-sound correspondences, vocabulary, reading fluency) but also show teachers HOW it can be taught with a research-based approach! Once a week, I wil post a short lesson or instructional activity (usually less than 2 minutes) that SHOWS instruction of a specific element of the reading process (ex. Blending 2-phonemes) using specific, evidence-based instructional strategies (ex. Teacher-directed instruction with choral responses and immediate corrective feedback). Let’s get started! It’s time for our first #SORShowAndTell!!!
