dudebros who complain about gay shipping in shounen are so funny to me. like please, your fav mangaka wrote a story so devoid of complex women that the only compelling relationships are between men, these are the consequences of his actions
i actually feel like fan translators are doing a public service by translating series english publishers would never pick up due to a lack of financial incentive, but maybe i’m crazy
when shoujo and josei series are given the same respect and acclaim as their male demographic counterparts, i will tolerate your lecture on how “women read shounen too”
maybe i’m crazy but having a female character who likes ‘perverted’ things isn’t that ground breaking if she’s still the object of sexual desire instead of the one desiring
Throughout this series, Marin is always the one pushing societal boundaries of what is considered acceptable for girls to like. She plays eroge, watches ecchi anime, and loves underboob. This is who she is. And this is why the series has fanservice.
when women don’t like shounen romances it’s because the women are over sexualized, when men don’t like shoujo romances it’s because the love interests make them feel inferior
To all those who are trying to watch Ooku and are confused, here’s a character chart i edited to include important characters in the anime! I hope it helps someone!!
yapping about how tohru is docile and meek meanwhile the entire point of her character is actually that she is neither of those things and behaves that way as a defense mechanism
Sexualisation isn't the only type of misogynistic writing
Lack of personnality and making all female character overly meek and docile is just as bad + boring as hell 🙏
that “man manga” tweet is really the gift that keeps on giving, seeing shounen fans getting pissed off that their faves are made for men is next level comedy, truly made my week
@WRiver64
women making up a 1/3 of wsj readers is a conservative estimate, so yes they would make significantly less money without their female audience
i think it’s telling that for bokuyaba everyone quickly moved on from ichikawa fantasizing about killing his love interest, but we’re already at ep 6 of a condition called love and people are still speculating that hananoi is a serial killer
I haven't exactly looked at Crunchyroll Awards winners yet, but I just wanted to remind everyone that the judges' votes weigh 70%, a detail Crunchyroll doesn't bother mentioning on their FAQ or Anime Awards news articles.
So apparently Citrus is bad because it reads like it was made “by men for men,” despite being written by a woman (who is likely wlw)
Meanwhile, Revolutionary Girl Utena is revered as one of the best yuri works of all time, despite being written and directed by two men 🧐
manga fans will make “manga(ka) with the best art style” threads and it’ll just be: 2 hyper realistic seinen, Araki, 3 dark shounen, and 2 popular mangaka with bland art. i’m literally begging you to expand your palate
@azucatcuddle
apparently i don’t actually care about female characters and am just making an excuse to ship men and hate on women despite the fact that i’m not even a gay shipper 😭😭😭
the difference between oushi and itsuomi is itsuomi is learning sign language to understand yuki, oushi learned sign language years ago but has never understood her
I saw this video and i think it relates to shoujo as well. I think that the reason that so many arguments by men against shoujo seem disingenuous is because they are feigning having an educated opinion when they are actually under read in the demographic
I challenge anime audience to name one manga written by a female author that isn't FMA or Kimetsu. Like, Dorohedoro, Mushishi, Dungeon Meshi, D-Gray Man and Witch Hat Atelier are right there
shoujo mal reviews are either:
10/10: wow, actually has depth! not like other shoujo
or
2/10: too many sparkles, contains attractive men so obviously female wish fulfillment
shoujo publishers failure to market to their target demographic is actually laughable. if they took literally a second to think about why young girls would rather read webtoons they would be making bank right now
The most fked up thing that manga publishers have pushed on us is that it’s “our fault” when shoujo and josei titles don’t sell. Nuh-uh this is capitalism 101 baby you don’t blame YOUR CONSUMER for your own shortcomings. We are not free advertisers nor stockholders be serious.
the shoujo community needs to stop policing the media other ppl read. i am past the point where i feel the need to morally align myself with every piece of media i consume and i think that’s healthy
For the first time in 69 years, Shogakukan has abolished the demographic categories shonen, shoujo, children and general from the Shogakukan Manga Awards.
They claim that nowadays manga is much more widespread across genders & ages and that's why they made this decision.
People acting like teenage protagonists is an "anime trope" makes me want to set my brain on fire. It's because you're watching cartoons for teenagers.
no cause i think for a story in which deafness is a major theme, having its deaf character be secondary to her bully is actually a valid and reasonable thing to critique
the thing about banana fish is that mappa’s recent adaptation of the series means it has gained a dominant fanbase of people who:
1. don’t read shoujo, and
2. don’t read BL of that time period
and it leads to some of the most deranged takes you’ve ever heard in your life
@Dubirap
@chsmpsycho
Also most shoujo sucks in writing complex and diverse female characters or any characters lmao or in exploring themes beyond love triangles 😭😭😭 like my guy sit down we all are in this together
shounen fans always shit on shoujo by mentioning the worst examples of the demographic, but if i bring up rent-a-girlfriend and 7 deadly sins then i’m the bad guy

nah cause he only ever had long hair to please his ex. idk why everyone is upset when it was never an expression of his personal style in the first place
i’m gonna be charitable and assume you don’t know that you’re talking about so here are some shoujo/josei manga that were under publication in the last decade that “have something deeper to offer”

2nd ml syndrome is born out of the patriarchal belief that men, for being kind and decent are deserving of reciprocal feelings, thus their rejection evokes a wave of sympathy that is never extended to rejected women
No offense but do fujoshis know they can like yaoi without acting like it's more feminist than media actually centering female characters and women in it💀 Unironically some people here just use it as an excuse to not even try looking at the stories that actually center women😭
i feel like in the romance genre conflict is integral to emotional pay off, yet too many shoujo mangaka have neglected conflict in order to create perfect couples that are beyond reproach and it’s just sad
i just finished the first Ooku episode and i think it was excellently done! it follows the first volume quite loyally and was animated beautifully! my only critique is the score kinda felt off sometimes
