โanyone else would've done the same thing in that situationโ. the massacre ended when US Army Major Hugh Thompson Jr. threatened to open fire on his fellow soldiers if they didnโt stop killing. He was *literally* in the same situation and did the exact opposite
Hot take. The My Lai massacre wasn't 100% US fault. Contrarily, Viet Cong deserved harsher criticism for using children, elders, and women as human shields. Not saying what American troops did was justified, but anyone else would've done the same thing in that situation.

@USAisAok_ Mhm.
The media has successfully divided families. Shame on all of you. This woman voted for Trump, and her family won't even talk to her. How are we here?

@SSelkie3 I swear itโs like everyone knows this isnโt gonna go well and people are trying to find excuses to justify their vote.

@trappychan_ Under the Democrats? Or under Republican-controlled state governments in America? Almost none of these are the current law across the nation, and a Republican victory would make the situation much worse.

Posted about this before.
On this 4th of July, I want to elevate the names of American heroes like Hugh Thompson, Glenn Andreotta, and Lawrence Colburn, who bravely risked their lives to stop the My Lai Massacre, one of the most brutal American war crimes during the Vietnam War. May they rest in peace.

@JohnathonWillow Why do so many people in this thread think labeling something as โpornโ is a gotcha? That doesnโt actually justify why the scenes shouldnโt be shown.

@Staroxvia Facts. Coal is legitimately the worst fuel source imaginable. Guess which one Germany likes better between Coal and Nuclear tho lmao.

Iโm officially not worried. As @Hbomberguy said, one of the best ways to stop antivax nonsense is for skeptical people to see someone close to them get vaccinated and remain completely fine. Thatโs literally whatโs happening.
"High vax rollout approval summer" doesn't quite roll of the tongue, but it's happening. -- @NavigatorSurvey

@sleepy_devo @nmarks171 The borders of modern Palestine were drawn by the British sure, but the people there were still living there. This is an ethnographic map from 1925

@sleepy_devo @nmarks171 You seem to be trying to make a point about sovereignty perhaps, which doesnโt really make sense. My argument is that Palestinians have a solid right to self-determination as a settled population of the region for centuries.

@vanillaopinions I think weโre gonna make it through this. I just pray everyone remembers that these things happened and who was responsible.

BTW, while Thompson and his men were vilified for saving hundreds of livesโฆ. The main perpetrator of the massacre William Calley became a folk hero of the segregationist South. A country song defending Calley and Mแปน Lai reached #37 on the Hot 100 and sold millions of copies.
This is the most inhuman and disgusting song I think Iโve ever heard in my life. Released in 1971, it explicitly defends (and praises) the most well-known perpetrator of the My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War. and it was a *hit*.
