So got mansplained to today over on FB about how
#NollaignamBan
wasn’t a proper tradition! Yes, someone said that to a West Kerry Woman!! Rightly riled me up for our dinner out & to wear my fave Irish women designers! Nollaig na mBan Shona a Mhnáibh - Is traidisiún iontach é ❤️
My grandmother Léan Daly always looked forward to Nollaig na mBan & visiting friends, chatting, eating cake & drinking punch! Amhránaí, bean leigheas traidisiúnta & bean gur bhreá lei a bheith ag caint (must be where I get it 🤣)

Thinking of Aisling Murphy this morning, her family, friends, students & the traditional music community in Tullamore. Terrifying and so so tragic. Suaimhneas síorraí dá h-anam óg.
I may have gone a little overboard with the fairy lights but sending light & grá ó Shráid Eoin dos na héinne atá ag obair, ag fulaingt nó in ísle brí.

We made a little video about delivering the St. Brigid’s crosses to our neighbours and the traditions around it.

I did not know Ashling but when I watched this clip earlier was struck by the stunning beauty of her playing & decided to share. So sweet, musical, graceful & such poise for a young musician.

Appointees include traditional flute-player Aoife Granville, Linda Coogan Byrne of the Why Not Her? campaign, and former Director of the Dublin Fringe Festival Róise Goan.
This air, Eamon a’ Chnoic, has been in my head for the past couple of days prob because it was my uncle Johnny’s anniversary yesterday. He loved it & always asked me to play it. A bit rough and ready but anyway…
While we had a rocky relationship during the past year or so I was mad about James since young. So many tunes, trips away, songs & stories shared & will always appreciate his help with songs especially. Níl aon dabht ach ná beidh a leithéid aríst ann. Misseálfaimid go mor é

When I shared pic of Granny, people chatted also with fondness of my Grand-aunt Julia.A wonderful lady who worked for yrs to make up a dowry to marry in Dún Chaoin. She spent her life looking after students & visitors & loved ball nights! Bean iontach láidir. I think of her often

For Séamus MacMathúna: Cois a Ghaorthaidh. The 1st air I learned from Séamus many moons ago. He opened up our wonderful song tradition & air playing to me & gave me lots of opportunities. Bead i gcónaí buíoch do. Beannacht leis.

It was a great honour to play for Teresa Gardiner’s funeral yesterday. I was utterly gobsmacked when the family presented me with Teresa’s flute. I’m not sure what else to say today but it is a tremendous privilege. Suaimhneas síorraí dá hanam.
Ag súil go mór leis. A great privilege to be involved in this event with storyteller Nuala Hayes & artist Rita Duffy in a few weeks! Ag ceiliúradh Peig & a chuid scéalta ❤️
A sad day for Dingle & our traditions. The band were left with no choice in this decision…bainfimid taitneamh as Nollaig na mBan ach…fireworks a priority over tradition doesn’t sit very well with me!
Muiris Ó Rocháin, the Ferriters, Foleys & all our former wran stalwarts would have so proud to see such numbers in the Sráid Eoin Wran yesterday. What a day! We never died a winter yet 💙🤍

One of my greatest privileges over the past few years has been getting to know & work with the wonderful Gearóid Ó Crualaoích. Champion of Folklore, scholarship, otherworldly women & so much more. Lovely to celebrate the launch of his new book last night at
