The streak is over. After running two or more miles 439 consecutive days, yesterday I walked three. I’ve been plagued by quadriceps tendinitis all summer. When my knees recover, my running will resume. I’ve never loved running more but trees don’t grow all the way to heaven.

Call me progressive, but how have VOUCHERS become a “centrist” issue?. Vouchers take PUBLIC money and applies it to PRIVATE education. Research the 1960s proliferation of private schools in the South. The end of segregation made wealthy whites abandon public schools.

Far from perfect, public schools might be the best thing our country offers. Free daycare age 4-18. Safe. Fair. Ran by college-educated adults. Art. Music. Physical Education. Health. Life Skills. Sports. Socialization. Dances. Clubs. Science. History. Math. Foreign language.
For my entire 38 years of teaching, I witnessed a political war against public education- yearly budget cuts, pay freezes, and draconian reform. Teachers were told that computers would replace them someday. It took a pandemic to teach the public the value of public schools.

Last year we watched 🏈 coaches everywhere fight to have a 🏈 season. Maybe this year 🏈 coaches will do the same by promoting vaccinations and public health. It’s the best way to have a 🏈 season this fall.

Science lesson:. Rubella is a MILD illness. We all get vaccinated to prevent Rubella (Mumps-Measles-Rubella Vaccine, aka MMR). We don’t get the MMR vaccine to protect healthy individuals, we get it to protect pregnant mothers and prevent birth defects. Vaccines are good.

Wonder what percentage of teachers voted MAGA? . Teachers once worked without bargaining rights, no right to strike, and could be fired without cause (no “tenure”). Hope modern day teachers are aware of the PROGRESS of the past 60 years. Regression is painful.

It should be the other way around. Your first $50K should be tax-free with no Social Security deduction. Food and shelter should be a human right. Every dollar after $50K should be taxed, no matter how high the income. We live in an oligarchy pretending to be a democracy.
Here's the crazy situation. Somebody making $10 million in a year is contributing the EXACT SAME AMOUNT into Social Security as somebody making $160,000. Let's raise the cap and expand Social Security benefits, not cut them.
