Excited to announce that I just relocated to Washington, DC to start a new role as USA Research and Policy Advisor at
@hk_watch
Eager to meet people, learn, and contribute to China policy, particularly regarding Hong Kong
DM me if you want to meet or have recommendations ☺️☺️
Why are Carris trams in Lisbon advertising the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover? It is a promotion and whitewashing of the Chinese Communist Party in Europe. These ads should be taken down now!
#FreeHongKong
Today on the 34th anniversary of the
#TiananmenMassacre
we remember those who struggled for freedom, human rights, and democracy, and that the fight continues
I support this in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and everywhere else oppressed by the CCP.
Justice will prevail soon

35 years later, we will not forget what happened on June 4, 1989, or the other pro-democracy activists and movements
Grateful to stand alongside Chinese dissidents, Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs and others tonight
Hong Kong journalist missing after reporting trip to China
Very alarming and once again shows how Beijing can disappear people with impunity - one-party state with no transparency, accountability, rule of law
Hope Minnie can be found and go home soon
Happy international human rights day from Taipei!
This week, it’s been inspiring and moving to meet Taiwanese and Hong Kong people who are continuing to monitor and advocate for human rights in Hong Kong
One day we will all have the rights, freedom, and dignity we deserve ✊
So proud of my dad Eric Wear, who is a former art history professor in Hong Kong, for publishing this excellent piece on how Article 23 will increase self-censorship in the arts, affecting people in Hong Kong and abroad

Learning more about Tibet and the Tibetan movement through

On international women’s day, I wrote about the women human rights defenders of Hong Kong, Chow Hang-tung

These strong women (and many others!) inspire me with their strength and hope
Happy to see

The spirit of the Hong Kong protest movements lives on, in Hong Kong and around the world. We are still fighting for democracy, human rights, and freedom. We will never give up or back down

Excited to launch this policy paper on HKETOs today! Not only do we need to address the
#HKSAR
gov (and
#CCP

Given the

Once again, China is the top jailer of journalists
Although this is a recurring trend, it’s not normal or acceptable
Chinese people deserve freedom of expression and access to information, especially on events and politics happening inside China itself
Starting the week at the French Sénat in Paris where I am meeting with Senators and Representatives on behalf of

It’s been over 3 years since Peng Shuai has disappeared

Thank you so much to Ambassador Wu
@TaiwanEnFrance
for meeting with me today!
It was inspiring to talk about how Taiwan is a hub for democracy and free speech in the region, your support for Hong Kongers, and how we can continue to work together to resist Beijing and be free
Thank you to the
@TaiwanEnFrance
Taiwanese Representative Wu Chihchung for meeting with Hong Kong Watch in Paris
We had a rewarding conversation about how the people of Taiwan and Hong Kong can continue inspiring and supporting each other in democracy, rights, and freedom 🇹🇼💪
Terrible to see that
#HongKong
continues to target activists who are already in exile. This is illegal and against the principles of human dignity, rights, and freedom.
We must stand up to this to prevent further instances and also escalations.
Today, the Hong Kong national security police detained the son and daughter of pro-democracy activist Elmer Yuen.
Hong Kong Watch condemns these continuing threats against Hong Kong activists:

The prosecution in
#JimmyLai
’s
#NSL
trial present a skeleton map including people he has never met, and accuses them of conspiracy to collusion using dubious reasoning and evidence
It is truly heartbreaking to witness this injustice and the breakdown of rule of law at home
A skeleton map according to detailed allegations raised by the prosecution regarding the 3rd count of conspiracy to collusion. Can’t include every single person and event named, nor the financial investigation.

She added that “no one, including the police, is above the law”
Grateful to know that they have read our submission and respect the law.
Disturbing and completely unacceptable for the HK gov to issue bounties for activists in exile, who are already abroad for their safety
Now an attempt to apply the

to silence and threaten critics abroad

Today, the Hong Kong National Security Police have issued arrest warrants and bounties for eight Hong Kong pro-democracy activists living overseas. You can read our PR condemning the targeting of these activists & urging 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 Govs to respond👇 👇 .
Today is Ching Ming Festival (清明節), a day for Hongkongers (and others) to remember our ancestors, visit the cemetery, clean graves, and make offerings. I grieve and miss the people I lost, and the HK that we once shared. These are left in the past, existing now in memory.
Conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and acts with seditious intent are both “vague and ambiguous” dimensions of the

Increasing cooperation between Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese courts means increasing erosion of “one country, two systems” and another blow to the judicial independence that is left
It was wrong to not be able to voice ourselves against or criticise the HK government. Now as we see HK being more integrated into China, we gain a longer list of things we cannot say or do. We must keep supporting Uyghurs and other victims of the CCP. Never back down.
I just received this from the Hong Kong Police, asking me to surrender to them under the arrest warrant for incitement to secession and collusion with foreign forces. What do you think I should say in reply?
