The Sapling Protocol, a fully-shielded by design zkSNARK-based transaction solution created by Zcash, has influenced an incredible amount of privacy solutions. Zcash's Sapling paper is an approachable way to understand the origins of many leading privacy protocols:

What if scale really is all you need? Just like the rise of ASICs for proof of work, Etched may very well be the silver bullet for the transformer. Congrats to the whole @Etched team

Meet Sohu, the fastest AI chip of all time. With over 500,000 tokens per second running Llama 70B, Sohu lets you build products that are impossible on GPUs. One 8xSohu server replaces 160 H100s. Sohu is the first specialized chip (ASIC) for transformer models. By specializing,

A good argument for why the future is multi-chain is the current structure of internet infra. Every Network Service Provider (NSP) must connect to at least three publicly-owned Network Access Points (NAPs) so that packets can jump between networks.

The equivalent design for decentralized private computation is Zexe Zexe uses a combination of homomorphic encryption and ZKPs to enable private defi (protocols have already begun implementing this framework including @AleoHQ )

@dystopiabreaker counterpoint: crypto is more intrinsically ideological than deep learning, e.g.: protocols at the intersection of crypto and AI (if executed correctly) will be decentralized and permissionless -> more aligned with libertarianism

@dystopiabreaker His point re price gouging is connected to his 2021 executive order on promoting competition to decrease inflation, which he seems to be referencing despite the consensus opinion that gas-related inflation is almost entirely due to supply chain disruptions

@dystopiabreaker The related problem that I’d be more interested hearing about is data abuse (the flip side of price gouging) in the case of big tech companies that are monopolies in the sense that competitors cannot rival their network effects

All in all, centralization can come in many forms. Even a decentralized blockchain can have monopolistic qualities, which inevitably decreases innovation over time.

@cronokirby Common sense macro argument: Feedback loops are worse in PoW than PoS because of economies of scale (disproportionate PoW rewards for having more initial resources) + disproportionate PoW rewards == inevitable centralization over time

@dystopiabreaker Some information will inevitably still have to be shared with the government for tax purposes, prosecution, etc. however solutions like differential privacy (retaining individual anonymity in datasets) could help preserve privacy by default in some cases (e.g. census)

There are also alternatives to NAPs like privately-owned  Metropolitan Area Exchanges (MAEs). Both NAPs and MAEs forgo monopoly of provider to allow for the most efficient exchange of information.

Just like the first iteration of the internet beginning w/ ARPANET, blockchains should avoid centralization in all forms. Multi-network -> Multi-chain.
