Euston has come to a stand still because of a person who has died today. So many people saying so many stupid things. You might be late, as I will, but at least you’re going home 💔
Thank you to everyone who’s been kind & loving & made me laugh over the last few days. You probably didn’t even realise that today it’s 15 years since Mark took his life and I’m grateful to you for just being lovely and supportive without even knowing it ❤️

So, the secret is out. Well done to everyone who worked hard for the appointment of the Minister for
#SuicidePrevention
. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I’ll be watching the progress made
It is with immeasurable sadness that we have to let you know that our wonderful and much loved Dad Michael Samata died yesterday. He slipped away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Lily by his side. He was courageous until the end 💔
@AvantiWestCoast
…and to the guy who just made a young member of
@AvantiWestCoast
staff bereaved by suicide leave her post because she was so upset…may you never experience what we have. You never know what someone else has experienced! Maybe you wouldn’t care if you did 🤬

When you open your bag in a hotel the night before speaking at a conference only to realise you’ve packed your child’s school trousers instead of your own 😂😂😂
Took me a good 24 hours to decide if I should accept this invitation or not,but I’m not sure how often those of us with lived experience have the opportunity to have the conversations that need to be had. Wish me luck!

The
@AvantiWestCoast
staff are being amazing! Dreadful, dreadful people being so selfish and abusive. I hope this never happens to them. I really do.

Hope everyone’s ok? This is such a tricky time of year for all kinds of different reason isn’t it? Definitely brings out the best and the worst in people as well. I’m sending much love and very best wishes your way X

is a daily post to someone I know, someone I respect & admire, someone who makes a difference outside their field of work, by doing more, by saying more, by their actions and words. Today I present Arts Professional and mental health expert Angela Samata.
Just heard another story of a person with
#LivedExperience
being asked to speak at a conference for free. If you think we are valuable enough to be given a platform, please give the deserved respect and sort your speakers fee first before you make the call FFS 🤦🏻
Ahead of

I’ve been thinking about when I was first bereaved, suicide prevention & supporting those bereaved by suicide were never talked about in the same breath. Thankfully that has now changed. Thank you to everyone who made that change happen! 💛
Lovely news! Passed my first essay of my Psychotherapy Masters
@LJMUCounsPsyPr
! To anyone who’s a mature student you know what a psychological lift that is! Ready for the next semester now 😃
#PostGrad
but today reminded me that for so many of us bereaved by
#suicide
those feelings are never very far away even after time passes and we do and say all the right things. If this has happened to you I just wanted you to know that it happens to me too ❤️ 4/4

THREAD My Comment piece is out today in
@TheLancetPsych
Many of us caring for children bereaved by
#suicide
often ask about the link between parental & child suicidal behaviour. My piece accompanies research exploring transgenerational transmission 1/5
Who said young people are trouble?! Tonight a 15 year old boy accidentally crash his bike into our parked car and broke the back lights. How did we find out? He knocked on the door and told us. How kind and honest is that! 😁
My Dad is Greek Cypriot and my Mum is half Italian. This lockdown has very quickly become about our family making food and dropping it at the end of each other’s path or even collecting from the garden wall and I really like it 😅
So, this is happening tomorrow 😁 Can’t wait to welcome The Duke to
@JamesPlaceUK
alongside
@JE_Boland
and everyone else who’s hard work has brought the first ever James’ Place to Liverpool. ❤️
The Duke of Cambridge will visit Liverpool on 19th June, where he will attend the International Business Festival
@TheBusinessFest
.
HRH will then officially open
@JamesPlaceUK
, a new centre for men experiencing suicidal crisis in Liverpool.
So many people are now going to feel enormous pressure to provide at Christmas when they’re already struggling to manage. If we’ve learnt anything from
#lockdown
please let it be that love & kindness are enough and just spending time together is a wonderful gift ❤️
Angela presented the BBC1 BAFTA nominated and winner of the Mind Media Award for Best Factual TV documentary, ‘Life After Suicide’. The film encouraged discussion and exploration of mental health issues, challenging the stigma of suicide.

Today I’m choosing to remember you can’t change what’s happened but you can choose how you react to it. I’m choosing to park the ball of anger that I have in the pit of my stomach after watching the worst Christmas party video and instead I’m going to buy food for the lemon tree
Felt wrong to be having a big 50th celebration because my sister, who’s been double vaccinated tested positive for Covid and has been very unwell. So good to speak to her today and to hear that she’s turned a corner! Please be careful out there. This really isn’t over

There’s a woman sitting in a car outside my house because her baby is asleep in the car seat. I remember doing exactly the same and wanting a coffee. Maybe I’ll pass her one in on my way out.
Apologies to everyone we couldn’t invite to my Father’s funeral. Apparently we could have just ignored the rules and done what we wanted because we thought that was an important event too 🤬

Getting ready to board my first Bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto to interview photographer and filmmaker Nobuo Onishi. Feel like I should wear something special like I’m boarding the Orient Express.
Before you read this I AM ABSOLUTELY FINE!!! X But,this morning a set of circumstances happened that took me right back to the day almost 20 years ago when my partner & the father of my children ended his life. It gave me that feeling in the very pit of my stomach,that lurch 1/4
I am often asked about ‘signs’ that someone may be thinking about ending their own life.
This is the best start I’ve seen to an answer.
I know how much hard work it will have taken to make this. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
