Yesterday in Seville. I was convinced I could run 6min miles, and for 2 hours, it looked like it might work out. Then the marathon did its thing... Super shoes, energy gels, whatever - nothing makes the marathon any shorter. 2:40:37 - a 2min pb aged 41. More to come!

Three summers ago I set myself the challenge of running a sub-5 minute mile, thinking it would be a relatively easy challenge. It wasn't. But tonight I finally did - 4:54 at Wimbledon track. Not embarrassed to say I was inspired by @JakeSWightman earlier!

I'm racing a 10,000m track race tonight. No chance of it being the wrong distance, assuming everyone involved can count to 25. And the entry fee was under £10. I increasingly think I'm done with big city events - these grassroots races are way less stressful and often better.

Raced a 1500m on the track last night. Makes me wonder why we get so obsessed with marathons. Going fast over these shorter distances is just as hard, if not harder, and a whole lot more sociable. I ran 4:42 - sub-4:30 would be nice one day.

@guardian I've had a cargo bike for 3 years. It's used daily to transport kids, shopping and occasionally rubbish to the tip. It cost £3500. Expensive to buy, cheap to run and you reclaim so much time you would otherwise be sat in traffic. More are needed!

So, 8x1600 at marathon pace + 8x400 around 10k pace. The absolute numbers sound impressive, but make them relative to these athletes' bests and they're actually quite conservative. When was the last time you ran marathon pace on the track?

Can't stop watching @JakeSWightman 's run. The way he commits to taking the rail at 300m is pure class and Jakob clearly isn't used to that. Kinda reminds me of his countryman @chrishoy in his pomp - just dominate the front position. Beautiful.

Tonight I was asked to join a game of dads 7-a-side football. I don't think I've played football on a pitch since I left university, so at least 20 years ago. It was a useful reminder that just because you consider yourself to be an athlete, it doesn't mean you're athletic

Loving our new @RidgebackBikes cargo bike. We've temporarily moved house so we have a 6-or-so-km ride to nursery and the e-assist is making light work of it. Plus, we're having much better conversations en route. Just need a proper bench seat and belts and we're sorted.
