DePaul freshman Chris Riddle logged his first significant Big East action tonight. In just seven minutes, Riddle posted three points, three rebounds and a block. JJ Traynor on Riddle’s readiness to play tonight: “I was happy for Chris. He came in, hit the three and then was just playing aggressive. I think he got a block on defense. He practices hard. Every practice he’s the main guy on the scout team, so he stays ready and stays with it. I’m just happy for him.”

DePaul held Eric Dixon to a season-low 14 points tonight. Most of the time, it was 6-foot-2 sophomore reserve David Thomas guarding the nation’s leading scorer. “In practice we just practiced before switching 1 through 4, so a guard could be on him. Just keep my chest on him, play physical, and just keep my hands up and try not to foul. So yeah, we practiced that throughout the week.”

Coach Holtmann revealed that some former players have come back to help out with practice bodies as injuries continue to pile up for his squad. Said formal walk-on tryouts are not something they’ve given lengthy thought to at this point.

Coach Holtmann said in his postgame tonight that Conor Enright’s shoulder surgery “went well”. Noted that part of the decision to shut it down was ongoing postgame soreness and also the desire to be ready for next season. Said it’s about a six-month recovery process.

FINAL: Villanova 59 - DePaul 49 Despite a season-high 16 points from David Thomas in Enright’s absence, the Blue Demons could not overcome a tough shooting night overall. Blue Demons had 65 shot attempts versus 48 for Villanova. However, DePaul only shot 7-36 from deep.
