@gregbagwell Perhaps all NATO nations should commit to whatever agreed % GDP on NATO defence commitments, with their out of NATO area commitments on top. Transparency is key.

It needs to be explicitly seen as a useful tool not a handout, as much at home as abroad. & every single penny needs to be seen to support the UKs objectives. Aid needs to involve a “contract” & we need to get something back.

@ThreshedThought The UK (& Europe) rely on world trade so we have strat interests in Asia-Pacific & the keeping Sea Lines of Comms open. Fr & Italy have both had carrier deployments east of Suez to demo spt for int law. The UK needs to take a co-ordinated turn. Also helps UK-US relationships.

@GBNEWS Foreign aid is a UN commitment. Its meant to be 0.7% of GDP from “developed countries” but very few meet that. UK only ever met the commitment between 2013 & 2020 and has since reduced to 0.5%. Where it is spent is the issue, it should be aligned to our foreign policy reqmts.
