Since returning to India this has been my no. 1 observation - North Indians who don’t realize that they essentially grew up in ghettos, move down South and meet people who exist in a pluralistic society and feeling some type of way about it.
it took these many people who get paid in lakhs per hour to get bail for someone who had no drugs on him.
Imagine where you'd be if the police decided to give you a tough time for any reason.

Amir Khan earned Crores in the name of Female wrestlers, what’s stopping him now from taking stand for them like he used to do during UPA Government, just like the way he during IAC movement ?
The truly hilarious thing about that Rani Mukherjee quote from the roundtable is that her prime example was Satyajit Ray, a man who had nothing but contempt for the kind of Indian cinema Rani makes 😂
They actually did say that. There was an entire class of British (not biracial) folks who identified as “Anglo Indian” and were very upset that Indians didn’t appreciate the nuances.
Imagine it’s 1942 and some tearful white British woman on camera saying “don’t you see when they say “quit India” they’re calling for my genocide sob”
That’s how ridiculous this is.
This was when I got on the Nonnie train. No equivocation, no excuses, no lies. A man old enough to know better put her on the spot and she said pffft. And don’t tell me that’s a low bar. Women are conditioned to lie to ensure male feathers don’t ruffle. She didn’t even stutter.
I don’t want to hear a single Vanga fanboi weep & wail about the trash Animal reviews. If his game - his ONLY game - is to be offensive, then he’s gonna get it back too. Man up and take it on the chin like an “alpha” bro.
The story of Santhi Soundarajan is what radicalised me on this issue 20 years ago. To this day I can’t imagine the pain and suffering that poor woman was put through. In one week her entire life was upended under pretty much the same circumstances.
This has happened to us before where our women were told they aren’t women enough to compete. The procedure for these tests are inhumane. This is just biological racism.
Dutee Chand, Santhi Soundarajan are those two women from our country.
In hindsight this really was such a wild way to stop the wedding (that no one wanted anyway).
“Allow me” and he bends down to retrieve the bangle from his bride’s veil?! “ALLOW ME”?!?! 🫠🫠🫠
Honestly, television at its absolute best. My heart was in my mouth the entire time😱
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. If a Muslim person living in India wants to criticise SRK or any of the other Khans for how they navigate the present political climate, that’s absolutely fair. The rest of you with your saffron voting families can just STFU.
I see a lot of these and here’s my perspective — I did my masters at 35 and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. As an older student, I knew why I was doing the course and how it related to my interests and I absolutely killed it. 1/
Sarah Treem gaslighting Ruth Wilson to save her own reputation is a whole lot of steaming bullshit. I can only hope this somehow violates Ruth's NDA terms and now she can advocate for herself.
I love a good “Bollywood to the rescue” story. Friend found herself at an Iraqi checkpoint without her passport on her and fully expected to end up in prison — when the soldier turned out to be a Bollywood and Shahrukh Khan fan and she was sent on her way with a warning.
hey non-Indians folks on the TL - pls know that the Narendra Modi government is currently carrying out extremely violent attacks on college students via armed third party goons in their employ
People looking at The Archies trailer and getting mad that it isn’t some historical documentary about India in the 60s is some classic worms in brains content
What I love about this genre is that she saves them by simply existing, sharing her space with them for a moment, being her. Just coming into contact with her changes the entire course of their lives.
Mind you, the South is hardly some paradise of equality and bhaichaara. It’s just as bigoted. But it’s not as crudely practiced as up North I think. And in recent years Southerners have picked up on this and made it a point to grandstand off it.

During the Kerala floods, it was the fishermen who went out and saved entire families. Every time I’m about to lose my faith in this country, I remember the poorest of us are often the best of us and to no reward at that.
They risked their lives. They are among the poorest in the land. They must be rewarded. If they don’t want cash, why not give them work commensurate with their skills and courage, in a non-hazardous space?
If there’s anything more tiresome than militant SRK fans, it’s mopey leftists who heap all hope for praxis on his oblivious shoulders and then get super bitter and jaded when he doesn’t perform as expected. At least the former acknowledge their parasocial fixation.
Lmao @ “what has she done to deserve this” discourse. It’s fucking Maybelline, not a Nobel Prize. They’re looking for high profile young women who can sell makeup and look, y’all can’t stop talking about it. Mission accomplished.
how come there are no supernatural stories about peacocks? if i saw a silk skirt like that floating away with that haunting cry and i didn't know wtf it was, i'd be pooping my pants
Ok I can’t take it anymore -
@iamsrk
you gotta stop with those filters, dude. We love your face! It’s iconique! Not a single fan of yours has ever complained about a single wrinkle! Stop with the janky filters. And hire someone who knows about hair extensions while you’re at it
It’s this friction between the Northerners’ bafflement and the Southerners’ condescension that erupts in things like the often viral anti-Bangalore screeds. Instead of making each other better, we seem to be making each other worse in new and saddening ways.
reminder for the TL : the Bajrang Dal BURNT ALIVE Graham Staines and his little boys, took full "credit", and didn't get banned. Nothing is gonna happen to them for their actions tonight either.
These are the people some of you are "both sides"ing about. DIA fucking F.
I know it feels like something that is happening somewhere far away, to another people, but I promise you this blood will wash up at all our gates and drown our children. It’s on us.
The number one thing a man in a romcom needs, TV or movie, is the ability to look at their love interest REALLY WELL. The man barely even needs to speak if he just knows how LOOK at a person.
Going back to school is great but you have to understand you’re making a financial decision too. And that can be tough. It’s not just tuition fees or other costs you’re paying out of pocket but the income you’re giving up to take that sabbatical. /fin
I need fewer photos of and info about that poor French woman and more photos of her rapists. Plaster them around the internet. Slap them on lampposts. Put out a little booklet with their names, photos, and personal information.

do you remember the guy that once invented vagina glue so we could glue it closed during periods and then expel all the period blood in one go? and how mad he was that women were completely ungrateful? 😂
Just watched DDLJ in a fairly full theatre on a weekday night almost 30 years after I first watched it. The crowd hooted, hollered, sang along, and even said the dialogues.
Pls RT. Pushu, a sweet little pup is looking for her forever home. You need to go pick her up in Cochin. She and her siblings are rescues but they also rescued my friend at the worst time of her life. Story time! (1/?)
It’s finally here!

have been working on a

essay for a while now and it’s all about an underrated quality in a Bollywood heroine — sheer, unbridled rage. 🥰 Meet Bollywood’s Angriest Leading Lady:
The problem however is that if you’re the kind of person who waits to do their second or third degrees, then you’re also the kind of person who’s done other things in the meanwhile that were likely paid. And the older you get the more accustomed you are to a certain lifestyle 2/
This is India House in London. My school was right behind it and I walked past it every day to and from class. There’s always some kind of protest in front of it: Kahsmiris, Sikhs, etc.
This is the largest, loudest crowd I’ve ever seen.
FYI: arguing that a successful Muslim actor bears extra responsibility to somehow save India from its entrenched majoritarian instincts is not the flex you think it is. 🙄
Why are y’all so bothered about film collections? Some guy made a movie with Not Your Money and now he’s made or lost Not Your Money. Get a job and obsess over how much you’re not getting paid if you want to obsess over money.
remember how we were all so mad that none of the celebrities had anything to say about the protests in India? honestly, that might have been for the best.
@Shrabonti
It’s a piece of Americana set in India, there are bound to be Americanisms because it is literally part of the story and aesthetic. If you want to watch the Archies without the Americanisms, I suggest watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
I don’t love the outfits, but the Jenner sisters were giving me Cristal Connors realness. On brief.
Whereas Kim K is just serving up the same boobs and labial ruching as ever. Could be in the upper end of the BooHoo dot com price range. Not a lick of camp in sight.

I think they want us to believe that it is inevitable. Yet so many so called inevitable things have been reversed by the will and effort of common people. I struggle to remember that but remember it we must.

a great FICTIONAL read ripe with all sort of dumbass patriarchal shit. Madhur Jaffrey was born into a very Hindu Delhi family, graduated from Miranda House, worked with Merchant Ivory, dated Saeed for years & he moved to London to marry her while she was studying at freaking RADA
I 💯 did not expect Priya Ramani to get any justice today which
A. Makes me delighted by her win
B. Makes me realise what I think of justice in my country.

I once heard Gordon Ramsay say this with great confidence as well. And then the next shot was him eating beef fry in a Kerala toddy shop and getting his mouth burned off. 🤣
watching old bollywood song videos and everyone was GIVING. hrithik. kareena. katrina. bipasha. aishwarya. srk. kajol. saif. john. these people looked like stars. the energy, the charisma. nobody GIVES anymore.
back in the olden days, when i was physically and mentally exhausted, i'd want to just climb into bed and dissociate for a bit. Now I live in my bed so where the fuck am I supposed to go?
