Beeswax is the MOST sustainable wax. Soy = monocultures + RoundUp+ deforestation + big oil+global trade. Paraffin = expensive extraction + elaborate processing + big oil + global trade. Beeswax = local flowers + local bees + local beekeepers + simple water filtration

It’s no coincidence that the fast majority of families embracing an agrarian way of life discussed on the @CatholicLand also prefer the TLM. For many — it is their faith and the right order of worship that is driving them an ordered life on the land - more in tune with God.
The great Catholic historian Christopher Dawson notes that in the chaotic aftermath of the fall of the western Roman Empire, the liturgy kept life together. I believe this is why many young people today are panting for reverent, otherworldly liturgy. We have the same need today.

I’m not sure what’s more therapeutic- making candles or burning them. The slow pour in candle molds is critical to ensure the wick is properly primed and no air bubbles get trapped in the cooling wax.

When we process the beeswax every summer there is always a little bit of honey left in the sticky wax cappings. This honey is burnt in the process of heating the wax to 180F. However it doesn’t go to waste. Off to our friends who make a killer sauce with caramelized honey!

Having a small apiary (2-4+hives) on the homestead does wonders for a good fruit set for most stone fruits like peaches, plums and cherries. Looking forward to some summer peach ice cream.

Our mating yard on the west end of our 10 acres is home to about 400 nucleus colonies this spring - once the queens are mated they will head off to their summer honey yards scattered around NWFL to make honey and wax. Todays check backs showed 60% are ready to head out!

Yesterday Red 3 was safe. Today it’s illegal due to cancer concerns. Do we need to wait for the FDA or EPA to declare that burning paraffin or synthetic fragrances in soy candles is a detriment to one’s health? . Do your research - just burn beeswax.

Cleaning up the shop, we sorted out some “seconds” we had left over from advent/Christmas rush. Cosmetic blemishes, scratches but still totally useable. They are sold as packs of 12 with random colors/non-colored. Selling them at 40% discount .

Beeswax when first produced by the virginal worker bees is white as a fresh snow. It’s not until weeks of bees walking on the wax that the oil from the pollen on the bees feet starts to “stain” the wax a golden yellow. #Beesknees
