Latin American. Gay (his/him). OCD. Sociologist, PhD. Researcher of climate activism and social movements campaigning against mass tourism and air transport.
For anyone interested, I have shared the informed consent forms produced for my EU-funded MSCA action PROTEST-AIRT. These forms could be useful for anyone studying ethics and data protection in research, or for those designing their own research projects.
SPOILER: The thing that troubles me the most in relation to
#13ReasonsWhy2
ending is that a 'school shooting' can be stopped with a 'talk' (while there is not a single word about 'gun control').
SPOILER: Additionally, in 13 episodes, there is no reference about how this troubled teenager collected his armament. It's a narrative centered in understanding his psyche into (potentially) 'becoming a mass-murderer', but
#13ReasonsWhy
doesn't show how guns are obtained. Why?

I think people assume that because it is "nature", it should be cheap/free. It's pure capitalism. But costs of maintaining nature are huge.
The worst part of that "Dear Mister President Vladimir Putin…" is that it perpetuates the idea that 'mothers' are to blame for the actions of their children, that 'evil' is preventable through motherly love... Shut the fuck up.
Extinction Rebellion protesting at Eindhoven Airport right now, demanding air transport degrowth and an end to private jets. Scientific findings have demonstrated the unfairness of aviation, with the 1% responsible for about 50% of CO2 emissions (Gössling and Humpe 2020)

@wef
It is more likely that the 1% will own 80% of the global wealth and we will own nothing, and that won't make us happy. We‘ll be lucky if we can rent a house, or get health care.

Exactly the point. The law is constructed. The idea of private property is constructed. The idea of sovereignty. These notions have value now, and are considered 'sacred', but they could/should be transformed or updated at will (for example, when they are obsolete).
@Alexander_Avina
One pillar of scientific research is consent. Did these human consent to become part of “the collection”? Did any living relative give authorization? If you don’t have any of that, whatever you are doing is hurtful and I wouldn’t call it “science”.
@Spearszed
@Al33mK
@mqudaih9
No. I said historical processes such as migration or climate emergency make current laws about sovereignty obsolete. Therefore, we need new laws that, for example, decriminalise 'illegal' migration driven by humanitarian crises. Don’t put words in my mouth.

Also the lines under the headline speak of the "lifeless", not the dead, the killed, the murdered. Lifeless as a rock. Lifeless as the writing rooms of The NY Times.
Oh, the old "normal' science... Why is Nature publishing this? Are scientists that collaborate with capitalism considered "activists" too? Or this only applies to those fighting the status quo?
Not that Dutch media is going to ask me, but I didn’t see anyone insulting KLM or Schiphol workers during the demonstration last Saturday.
What I did witness were airport workers being moved by the chanting, airport bus drivers honking in support, and lots of tourists filming…

Exactly. He basically confesses that he was unprepared for teaching and anyway he accepted the job, and kept doing it for decades. I pity his students.
@svgwhitelotus
If I can add something here, plenty of dangerous jobs are legal, even when they heavily harm the body (like mining). Other harms and deaths are made invisible, like the many workers who died building the new airport of Istanbul or the many suicides of cruise crews.
This is the reality of pineapple production almost everywhere: Stories of abuse and exploitation. The news article describes the horrible conditions workers face in Costa Rica:
@Telenoticias7
All recent global media "the climate crisis has arrived" stories are a form of propaganda since you have been ignoring the impacts on the South for decades. This is what happens when media is disproportionately owned by and written by people in the privileged North.
@CRBenavidesJ
@doctorow
Do you know the new platform
@OpenResearch_EU
? The main concept is to publish science both with open access and open peer review - meaning that the work of reviewers is also acknowledged and visible. There are lots of papers already available to explore (including one of mine).

I wouldn’t pay attention to this. Accusations of whataboutism could be read as a form of censorship and suppression of discourse. These accusations aim at establishing one single narrative, instead of a multiplicity of points of view.
@el_pais
A few days ago, protesters there were mocked by wealthy drivers in their huge cars, while being almost rolled over by the violent Nevada police. Now nature seems to be avenging them: The streets and airport have been closed.

In Costa Rica, inmates vote in jail. We have polling stations there. From management of prisons to laws, all decisions made by the government impact the lives of those incarcerated. Insane abuse of power to deny them their rights.
Greece is burning 🔥 just as Turkey was burning 🔥 just as Australia was burning 🔥 just as Canada was burning 🔥… and tourists are still hunting for cheaper flights and longer cruise ships holidays…

Scholars from the South have been saying this for ages, no likes, no follows. Someone from the North says it, and then people pay attention and get angry about global inequality and exploitation.
I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment.
Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate.
We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.

@farkasjohan
Also people from wealthy country have clear advantages securing visas and residence permits in other nations in the North, extremely welcomed in the South. Oftentimes even migration South-South is a nightmare.

There is a long debate on harm and dead people, you should check it out starting with everything written by Joel Feinberg. In any case, dead human subjects have rights and that is why we don't simply harvest organs from them, or rob modern cemeteries for 'scientific' purposes.
Shouldn't this be renamed as "Minister of Anti-Nature"?
"De minister voor Natuur en Stikstof heeft Luchthaven Schiphol dinsdag een natuurvergunning verleend.
