KHAN, Alia Labour – 1486 votes
HUSSAIN, Basharat Liberal Democrat – 1076 votes
AZAD NIKYALVI, Malik Conservative and Unionist – 154 votes
SCHEIMANN, Marc Independent – 58 votes
Pleased to announce that I have been selected as the
@UKLabour
candidate for the Dallow Ward by-election on 4th August. Honoured to have been selected for the ward I have grown up in and continue to live in. Committed to making a positive change for residents of Luton and Dallow.
My uncle took this harrowing journey stuck in the back of a dark lorry to arrive in Britain as a refugee. I know the the experience was a distressing one to the point he had lifelong ptsd around it. I wish people would understand that no one leaves home unless home is a danger.
If there were safe and dignified routes to enter the UK or be granted citizenship/asylum which is almost fucking impossible, then people wouldn’t be paying 3 grand to suffocate in the back of a lorry or drown in the sea. I’m not sure why people don’t get this
Seeing as this was a Brexit election, as a young european born-british pakistani muslim woman, I fear for my safety. In the immediate aftermath of the referendum I was subjected to racial abuse in public and with Johnson in power it can only get worse.

Today marks 22 years since my father was senselessly murdered. I was 5 years old and my tiny little mind couldn’t comprehend what had happened. Today I honour him and all other victims of murder and manslaughter. Today I just want to hug little Alia and tell her she’ll be ok. ❤️
Pleased to announce that I have been appointed as Community Governor for the Local Governing Body of
@DallowPrimary
.
This is a full circle moment for me as I am an ex pupil of Dallow Primary!
I look forward to working with the school that gave me so much in my primary years!
20 years today since my father was murdered. I was 5 and very much a daddy’s girl. Today has been somewhat difficult and I’m feeling a little bit distracted. My prayer will forever be to reunite in the best of places in the hereafter. 🤍✨
It seems that by the sheer number of engagements and marriages being announced on social media, people found the ✨loves of their lives✨ during lockdown. All I found was ✨depression and anxiety✨ … still happy for ya’ll tho 😇

Had the absolute pleasure of being invited to speak today at the

We were delighted that one of our Alumni recorded this little video for our Achievement assemblies today!
@alia_khann1
thank you and you truly are an influential woman. Thanks for inspiring our girls today.
@ChallneyBoys
I do find this response to be pathetic and inconsiderate. Its okay to call students “our boys” when grades come out stellar, but when a heartbreaking incident like this occurs you dismiss accountability and deny them as your own?
Interesting. As someone who attended
@LutonSixthForm
college, I’m frankly deeply disappointed by the lack of South Asian and Muslim representation in this promo. A large population of the college is made up by talented and intelligent SA and Muslim individuals.
We are very proud to officially release our promo video for 2022.
Are you ready to join one of the oldest, largest and most academically successful colleges in the area?
We look forward to welcoming you to our college in September 2022.

Really wish South Asian families would let go of the “logh kya kahe ge” trope.
It’s simple really, bivi miah raazi, toh kya karega Qazi?

Pakistani PM Imran Khan’s speech was one of the most articulated and powerful speeches ever given by any Pakistani Prime Minister. Not only did he fight the corner for the injustices being faced by kashmiris but quite honestly addressed Islamophobia on a global level.

If you have been affected by murder or manslaughter,

Incase you thought your morning was going bad, just know I fell and slipped on ice infront of loads of commuters this morning whilst on my way to the station.

I also hope students and staff who were at the scene trying to help the victim have been offered the right channels of support. Still in absolute shock at how pathetic this statement is.

And actually for those of us that grew up in Luton, EDL marches took place in our lifetimes. We would lock our doors and windows and stay in the days the marches would take place because of the fear of violence against us. The P word is used so casually even today and its not on
My dad grew up in the 1970s. The term Paki was used by racists who sought to make life hell for his generation. When racist gangs would target South Asians (and Black people) in the street they described it as 'Paki-Bashing.' People lost their lives. It's never been banter.
