Now that my school community have been informed, I’m excited to share that I am going to be a headteacher in January, at a lovely first school. I will be incredibly sad to leave Fairfield: the children, staff and parents are all amazing and I’ve loved my time there 1/2

@DanielleBeesle4 @MrTs_NQTs Mostly use a count down with my hand as well. Once established I only tend to say 5.4 and then just fold my fingers down for 3.2.1. I start the year with an instruction for each number 5 stop what you’re doing, 4 put everything down, 3 look at me, 2 voices off, 1 everyone listen

@MissStanleyYr6 This is mine. 24 children all sat next to each other in 3 rows. 1 sink at the back and toilets that they use. All measures in place to keep them as safe as possible, but NOTHING like the image being peddled!

@secretHT1 Yes! Absolutely this! I once worked at a school that had a specific time you couldn’t leave before (had to ask permission if you had an appointment)... and if you left AT that time you were judged as not as hard working as those who stayed later! 🙄

When my grandad was 5 he was evacuated from his home in Glasgow to a farm in the countryside. He returned home when he was 11! If he could stay away for 6 years, I’m sure we can stay at home for a few weeks/months! STAY AT HOME

@Anshul__K Can I say, as a teacher, I have not been contacted by any unions since the news broke, and none of my colleagues have said they want to close school- in fact all teachers I follow on here are desperate to keep them open! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@missAfzalrqt I left mine 7 years ago now and still feel my blood boil when I think about some of the situations- I also get random flash backs about it or read things on here that make me think of the school straight away 😔

@missb_y1teacher Well done you! Actually, what struggling with anxiety will do, is make you a more compassionate, supportive teacher to those children who also struggle with it! It’ll make you a better teacher than that mentor you had! 👩🏻‍🏫

@mathsmrgordon I went back to work from maternity leave when my son was 6 months for many reasons- getting to spend so much time with him again is like getting a second chance at that time we have missed! 💙

@eliistender10 This is my mum, on her 65th birthday, where she found out we were taking her to the Ritz for afternoon tea. I’ve never seen her so truly happy and it made me feel true happiness also

Wow that was an unusual first year at a new school! 🤣 A huge THANK YOU to the staff, govs, parents and all of our AMAZING children for being so wonderful throughout! I am so proud of the @Fairfield_First Family I have been welcomed in to! Happy Summer☀️

@missokso The other week, a parent of my sons friend genuinely asked me if we finished at 3pm every day 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just come to terms with the fact that unless you’re in it, you don’t get it! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Kalil_R91 They teach as well- our teaching assistants do learning out side the classroom sessions for PPA and they cover teachers when they are out. The children see them as their teachers just the same as the class teacher.

@Emmsibo People are very quick to forget the bigger picture! Some SLT didn’t stop from Feb HT onwards- they need to have a break too! They may also be waiting for the inevitable guidance update/changes- better to have accurate info once than lots of diff versions imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

@helenjwc It concerns me that they will learn them off by heart and not truly understand what they actually mean, like when children learn the numbers but not the value etc. Slow down and embed the learning!

@BCAMrHarris @Strickomaster I agree. Working in KS1 the children being in their own little bubbles means they miss out on the social elements of school and our ‘family’ feel isn’t the same currently: I really hope we have some ‘normality’ in September 🙏🏼

@DeputyGrocott Speak to maths lead. Ensure he can answer all y6 qs at that deeper level, with reasoning & problem solving skills fully embedded. look on NCETM for their extension stuff. talk to feeder school that he is likely to go to for support

@Headteacherchat I love it, it was so well structured and flowed through the years perfectly. It developed the whole child and really prepared them for the future I felt. Massive focus on the arts too, which I’ve always considered important. Such a waste and shame it got thrown out with the gov!

@TTRadio2021 I have a child and a dog, my son is my priority when I’m at home so I get all work done at school as much as I can and don’t bring any home… I’ll then do any emails/tasks I need to after he’s gone to bed If they can’t wait. But I agree with its diff for diff circumstances

@MissHudsonHist I remember feeling like this. The first 18 months after uni when I was teaching I just wanted to go home and talk to no one. It would really irritate me all the questions my mum had. When I moved out and lived on my own- I really missed having someone ask how my day had been 😏

@efhhistory @MrTs_NQTs Stock up on vitamins- I always get colds in that first term, at any new school! Enjoy time at home and catch up with friends/family etc. Make sure you ask any questions - don’t ever worry about them being ‘silly’ it’s always important to ask! Good luck 😁

The materials and online platform is great and rooted in evidence based practice. I like the case studies as they put it into real life context and our facilitator is amazing @PaulTopping62
