Update: It works!!! We’re able to see a 2mm wide plastic ball at 30 centimeters, with only 1/1300th of our planned transmitting power. This validates our SNR budget and gets us closer to our final goal: tracking and killing mosquitoes at a 3meters range
Currently working on a 3D ultrasonic sonar for mosquito tracking. Prototypes are in the factory right now!

@chesterzelaya Congrats! What’s the control loop? Needs some tuning but that’s trivial compared to what you already achieved

@chesterzelaya On quads max torque is much smaller on yaw than pitch and roll, which exacerbates any friction or imbalance on this axis. How do you make sure the CG is on the center of the axis ? Thank you for the cad files! Will look into it

@RemiCadene @Joe__Black__ @deepseek_ai @LeRobotHF So, specifically the GRPO using their hyperparameters? Is is that much of an improvement over PPO?

@ilaffey2 You wouldn’t need nearly as much. The math, filtering and control structures are the moat. The implementation’s now trivial thanks to powerful 32-bits MCUs

@boxcardavid Early pneumatic PID controllers were tuned by ear by the engineers, as most of the elements made distinctive noise

@elidourado @rootsofprogress Great talk. I’ll keep the last PFFs in mind given how persuasive they are

@bryancsk There’s a passage of Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s Skin in the game specifically about it. Highly recommend it
