I just don’t understand the argument that being on a social media site makes you allies with anyone. You go where you have the best experience for what you need from the platform. The algorithm here turned into hot trash and the research conversations have died. It’s all on 🦋, so I (and many others) moved. Nothing more complicated than that.

Wait you think this place isn’t a bubble??? I posted AI-skeptical stuff on here and got the same treatment as Kevin, but worse. I posted a Bitcoin skeptical paper and got death threats in my emails and calls to Uchicago to get me fired. Recognize that if you’re on social media, you’re in a bubble. Then use the platform that you get the most out of (for me, discussion of research, which is certainly not here).

@J2dubyas @ben_golub ..if you want discussion of current events or news, it’s not the right place, that I agree with. But for research, it’s basically #econtwitter circa 2018. Which is what I’m looking for.

@ben_golub @J2dubyas Yeah I’ve really hated having discussions where people disagree and post papers + evidence instead of calling me a cuck who missed the the train to the ovens. It’s been terrible.

@SHamiltonian @clairlemon That looks like a pretty gross cocktail, but the lack of mustache is working.

@besttrousers @ArmandDoma Exactly. The manufacturing jobs are just starting to come in and the high prices had little to do with the IRA.

My first (of now many) twitter breaks was when half this website was making fun of videos of grocery shoppers saying eggs and milk were too expensive, and they were having a hard time making ends meet. I saw a lot of charts from the St. Louis fed. This was two years ago.
A thought on why inflation didn't feel like a "big deal" to rich people: We were buying fancy stuff, so when prices went up, we had the ability to adjust down in quality to maintain our overall spending level. Poor people can't do that. They're already buying the cheap eggs.
