I’m sorry but you can’t separate UX from UI. Every designer should be able to make something that: solves a user problem, solves a business need, and expresses the brand while doing it.
It’s how it works, feels & looks while making stakeholders happy. It’s relatively simple.
Confession: I like having the url bar at the bottom in Safari. It’s easy to reach, the whole browser UI sits together, it makes sense to swipe to to move across tabs.

Big day today.
@airbnbdesign
Summit 2020 kicked off with a day of amazing stories and creativity from global teams. We used to all fit in a small bus, now look at us. We will be sharing out some of the amazing work on display on our blog soon.
Why have Google, Airbnb, Spotify and Pinterest all changed their logos to a similar font? Because their goals have shifted away “from making noise and standing out ..”

I'm working with the fine folks at
@thegameband
on
@blaseball
and other exciting projects. We're looking for a talented UI designer. Totally remote, flexible, and you get to work on something incredible. If you're interested,
@reply
or DM me.
All this GDPR shit should be built into browsers. Users hate the bad pop-ups, website designers hate making pop-ups and hence they’re bad. Everyone just clicks accept all. Everyone loses. Good idea. Terrible execution.
When you start thinking of Google as an advertising company and not a tech company then their inability to succeed in phones, gaming, etc… makes a ton of sense. Why would you expect an ad company to have the culture and commitment to win at consumer technology?
It's not "how things work" vs "how things look". That conversation started because some felt designers just wanted to make pretty things that didn't work. This isn't art, it's design. It's just "how things work" and everything that goes into that, including aesthetics.
Any great UI/UX designers looking to move into video games? I've been working with Sam at The Game Band for a few years and am so excited about what the team is working on. Join us! Reach out or check out the link.
Even though I wasn’t involved with that one I’m still super proud of the Airbnb summer 2022 release. Categories are a game changer that took time and effort to get right. “Design” as the first category of course. Congrats
@bchesky
and everyone who’s worked on this.
There are 4.5 million homes on Airbnb. But how do you find the one that’s right for you?
Today, we’re announcing new products and programs to make it easy to find the perfect home every time you travel–– an Airbnb for everyone.
This is why PMs with no technical acumen or designers who say they only do UX make me nervous. When you build a team you want people to be able to own as much as possible in their field. Also, every team member needs to have some understanding of the work the others are doing.
A current CEO + a previous CEO sit idly by while a co-worker is being bullied in public by a powerful jerk and his jerk squad. While I expect the plan is to make people leave you don’t have to take this shit. Life’s too short and you’re too talented.
We can’t share the details yet, but we’re setting the stage for some exciting changes for hosts and guests.
We'll be back tomorrow with some updates, all inspired by you.
Please talk to your kids, namely boys ages 8-18 about the manosphere and radicalization, and monitor their social media intake cause EVERY boy who is online is being actively recruited into these spaces
In March, Airbnb Experiences hosts all over the world had to stop doing what they love most. So they tried something new.
Thanks to the creativity and passion of our hosts, Airbnb Experiences are now online.
It’s critical to have people that can formulate a detailed vision for things like interface, technical infrastructure, business models. Why would you split each of these into tiny fiefdoms? How can you even talk about UX and not cover visual design?

gets its own Steam page. This was an important milestone for us before we embark on a 3-year(ish) adventure to develop our next-gen game.
Whoever wins, both teams delivered a hell of a show. The two best players in the world facing off. One starting his career, the other wrapping it up. This is some Rocky shit.

What “woke revolution”? Someone appropriated the term and used it to rebrand social progress in order to activate some boomers into thinking everyone was out to get them. We live in times of actively questioning how we used to do things. We should embrace it.
Making video games is a brutal, messy process. Delusion required to get you through days where nothing works and you feel like a fool for even trying. Today is not such a day. Today everything works and it's glorious. Can't wait to share what we're working on.

can be hard but we've had so much fun. Now we take a small break, watch out for bugs/feedback, & also begin pre-production on our next (much bigger) project. Proud of the tiny

Day one of prototyping. I'm testing out mixing voxels, bitmaps, and effects while the rest of the team sets up some testing environments. It's been super fun to figure out the scale of things. Right now 32px = 1m which seems to work well.

What an idiotic take. High-speed rail is the most sci-fi ass shit you can’t experience today. Just go to any country connected by ultra fast efficient trains and come back when you know what you’re talking about.
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg wants to make the United States the “global leader” in high‐speed rail. That’s like wanting to be the world leader in electric typewriters, rotary telephones, or steam locomotives.

Man, I still have both. I want to move to Apple Music but discovery engine is junk and I still find it impossible to quickly save/favorite a song. Spotify still has the edge on just starting a station based on song or artist. Both have terrible UIs. Tidal anyone?
Pro tip: adding "reddit" to a Google Search often improves results. I've been using this for a couple of years but did you know it can often remove the 4 (!!!) above the fold ads for simple queries? Basic query (left) and reddit-hack query (right). 🤦
Reading all those

updates reminds me of the incredible team we built at
@airbnb
. Seeing them thrive is a trip. Miss you all. Happy to see you thrive.
I feel partly responsible for promoting the term “product designer” even though I never liked it. Should have made more of an effort to switch the team to “interface designer” but I ran out of time/steam/courage.
