One of the most common questions I've ever been asked is does content marketing make sense for us? Or, better yet, when does content marketing make sense? Instead of the typical "it depends" answer, here's my take based on actual experience...

Pricing pages without prices have to end. If you aren't going to share your pricing at least don't call it a pricing page. Honestly, anything would be better: – "book a demo" – even "request pricing" would be better The internet will thank you.

I really can't get over how easy @atarim_io makes it to work on websites together & share feedback with developers lately. Takes around 10-25 minutes to conduct a full initial review of a single page vs. over 2 hours trying to compile feedback into tickets with screenshots.

@plantseeds_ The NGMI mindset is strong. 🥲 First of all, it isn’t about affordability, it’s about control and ownership here. But any real business would be proud to admit that they only pay for solutions that are worth it and do the job best. Not just blindly approve spend bcs they can.

Companies that send onboarding emails (or any product email for that matter) from a no-reply address don't know what they're doing. Stop trying to act like a big corp, i.e. Google or Microsoft. You're just losing valuable feedback. You're missing an opportunity to help users.

I am not anti-AI. It has its place, no doubt. But ask a dozen ppl (i.e. developers) if they’d willingly read a piece of content (about React/anything about design) if it were marked as *written by AI*. I do almost every week & guess what? Not one so far. Not a single one.

@BillKingTM True but often better to find someone with skill/potential and give them the opportunity & environment to succeed in my opinion. Those candidates almost always end up being much more committed + actually care (i.e less likely to hop jobs for the smallest salary increases, etc).

Product practicality > feature count Easy for software companies to get lost on feature count instead of obsessing over product usefulness. ...thinking things like AI are the next big thing for their (completely unrelated) product. Focus on the results you help end-users get.

I'm often asked at what stage to focus more on growth > product. The truth is you really shouldn't be separating product and growth because they aren't independent. You improve product. You make users happier. You keep them around longer. And you've made marketing easier.

Dear software companies that force you to book a demo to get started AND don't email to schedule a time to instead randomly call you during the day, Most people that actually work and manage the budgets you want a cut of don't answer the phone if they don't know who's calling.

The build in public crowd is mostly people that don't want to do marketing using it as an excuse to market to people that are similar to themselves, even though that isn't their actual market. I'm not anti-building in public, but always a shame when used as an excuse / crutch.

Most people in the WordPress industry haven't been a part of conversations with bigger companies choosing to use Shopify over WooCommerce for their stores. And it shows. They're completely out of touch with how the decision is made, pitching WP (as they should), but w/no logic.

After a conversation with @remkusdevries yesterday, it's clear that the @scalemath site needs an overhaul. Not only is it based on the initial build from @mikeoliver_me ~ 5 years ago (served us pretty well over the years!) – it no longer fully communicates what we do, who we

@LidiaInfanteM @sanity_io Sanity is great but it also equates to 20-30x budget required to implement and make changes :) Have used it and still recommend though for certain stage companies. Also, use cases for things needed in Sanity is truly better for no or WP is unsuitable for aren’t that common.

Pause at 1:40 and try to guess what this ad is actually about. This is completely absurd, I genuinely can't believe what I just watched...

Not only that though, I'm consistently impressed by available integrations - @Pipedrive , @Trello and @Asana just to name a few finally eliminate the need to jump back and forth. Fingers crossed, there's going to be a @NotionHQ integration soon! 🤞

For a customer support software company, @intercom 's support has to be some of the world's worst customer support I've ever experienced. Quite sad to imagine building software that people respect/use to deliver exceptional support yet be so terrible at it yourself.

Someone in the SEO industry launching a new site/blog and using a subdomain instead of a subdirectory in 2020. What’s your reaction? I guess this really is fitting with the whole 2020 narrative because, yes, somehow this happened today. This was my reaction.
