@RestIsPolitics Huge fan of the pod, but respectfully, the discussions about education quickly fall into a series of tropes, e.g. your talk about the national curriculum ignores the fact that academies, the vast majority of schools, do not have to follow it.

“We have managed to create for ourselves an economic model in which high income groups are protected from Britain’s economic under-performance.” Forensec analysis from David (Lord) Willetts that nontheless elides who the “we” doing the making actual is.

@RhonddaBryant I can't agree. You are right to stress the need for proper resourcing--not our government's strong point--and you could add a profound concern about the (comparative) lack of achievement in Maths to 16. But the case for Maths to 18 is compelling.

@amanda_spielman Agreed. The profession has rightly responded by calling for a serious consideration of the qualification or programme of study and associated resource requirements. But that shouldn't stop us from celebrating a very positive initiative.

@RealGeoffBarton @ASCL_UK The issue is the preferred qualification or programme of study and the funding and resourcing available to support the ambition. The rationale seems clear.
