@remkorteweg Irish Govt reportedly planning emergency laws to allow return of immigrants to UK. Raises many questions, but is in many ways another "Brexit" effect and so would be more effectively addressed within an EU-wide context?

@itvnews I wonder do people realise that Ireland is also a major food source for the UK - and that it's in the EU? It's misssing from the graphics (obscured by an animated truck), but accounts for almost 10% of the UK's total Food & Live Animal imports.

RT @SolidEvidence: The first time this happened was with the lineage B.1.1.1.1, which became C.1. Eventually they ran out of single letter…

@Usherwood One more caveat - EUComm statement: "Today's political agreement must now be approved by EU Member States before being formally adopted in the EU-UK Specialised Committee on Participation in Union Programmes" Will all member states see it as in their national interest to approve?

@dwmal1 @UrbnWarfareDuck @IrishTimes @UL Other oddities I recall: the editor we had was the infamously terse "ed", later replaced to universal relief with "em" from QMUL. The first "internet" connection was to UKC - you needed to know your own "routing table" and separate out the path with "!"'s to get anywhere else!

@dwmal1 @UrbnWarfareDuck @IrishTimes @UL @MathsTCD Sorry David, didn't see your reply. I think that note is from a later time, as I don't recall the PDP having anything so cute as a name back in the first days. My recollection was that the "how to boot" note was written Brendan Lynch from CS, who later worked with me at Sun.

@colleenhartlan1 @EmmaSmith035 @AmandaFBelfast It's also unclear how it could be enforced or checked - no border and too many travellers!

@colleenhartlan1 @EmmaSmith035 @AmandaFBelfast Citizens of Ireland & UK free to travel (&work ) anywhere in the 2 countries. English husband above should have no problems. For Australia UK will charge £10 for ETA (visa waiver (, but they won't be ready until 2024 at best (

@sdonnan As a textbook, Core Economics (, is much more heterodox and interesting IMHO than the standard textbooks used especially in the US. It's also free

@visualisingdata Having had to re-do one figure last weekend (which took me the full weekend!), monochrome output was a major constraint. But also file image formats for publication - eps, pdf, jpg, emf, plain old Word ...

@HannahEDaly Katya comes well-recommended for disease resistance in Irish condition, but not a long-keeper. Elstar and Red Windsor (Alkmene) do well in Cork

@SadhbhWalshe @ShannonAirport Last time I was there most of the travelers were shockingly young Americans in battle dress, in transit to Iraq and Afghanistan. I hope it can thrive now without that business!
