@Drew_Hyndman Yup or the other way round - get priced out of something habitually, slowly persuade yourself it's probably crap and not for you anyway (maybe incorrectly)(I am like this with theatre tickets).

@PhilippaDunjay Nothing like the realization that your next round will cost more than your weekly food shop to suck the joy out of an evening.

yes brilliant strategy. keep pumping out larger and larger quantities of increasingly low-quality writing until your entire output is indistinguishable from AI, at which point you can replace everyone with AI. a bright future for uk journalism ahead.
Regional press giant Reach has launched a drive to increase story counts across its titles, Holdthefrontpage reports. It reports on an email, sent by a senior Reach editor, suggests reporters should be writing EIGHT stories per shift

@mattbrady You can very easily get a monthly gym membership in London for less than the cost of three pints.

very funny that the US version of this account, "crazy ass moments in american politics" is all "in 1880 a town in ohio elected a boot to be mayor" while the british one is just a rolling feed of THIRTY SECONDS AGO AN MP . .
Grant Shapps MP posts this TikTok after the government announced that TikTok can no longer be used on government devices (2023)

@DCanUU Think we're more likely to see an absolute bacchanal of debauchery when the millennials receive the boomer inheritance windfall tbh.

@PMGallagher1 also this, from @AlannahFrancis1 , is another bleak portrayal of the state of our NHS that is up at the top of the i newspaper homepage today (which, incidentally, you should read, because it is the best newspaper).

@Liv_Boeree yeah i'm terrified of this massively plausible scenario which is definitely a real thing that we should 100% be worried about.

In the legends of my homeland, it is said that the elves (americans) visit hobbiton (london) once a year, and if it pleases them they choose a lucky hobbit (journalist) to receive a precious magical gift (an average new york salary).

The UK's housing crisis has got so bad that I genuinely think describing it as "dickensian" is doing a disservice to the victorians. Incredible scoop by @luciemheath.

@0ldoini omg yes it's awful, I had to take the cat to epping earlier this year and genuinely worried that I might be doing animal cruelty during the stratford/leyton leg.

oh dear oh whoopsy oh blimey oh fiddlesticks i appear to have done something revoltingly misogynistic and creepy. i am shocked. how could this have happened to such a lovable curmudgeon.
Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people. I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future.

major kudos to GB News for going full steam ahead and airing this despite their presenter coming across as a belligerent oaf while greenpeace looks calm and reasoned.
'It's disgusting!'. EXCLUSIVE: GB News' @benleo444 turns up at Greenpeace's London HQ to quiz them about their stunt at Rishi Sunak's family home in Yorkshire.

this is going to make twitter borderline unusable for newsgathering. can't wait to have to trawl through 800 posts to make sure that, say, Gordon Brown's account is actually his account.

these are cute but I fundamentally don't know if you could use them for london food deliveries. Because if I wandered out of the pub at 11pm and saw one of these little lads trundling past I would absolutely tackle him, crack him open and help myself to his delicious cargo.
I just passed a malfunctioning robot from the @StarshipRobots fleet. It asked me to help it by unblocking it’s way. I said ‘no problem’ and lifted it onto the pavement. It courteously thanked me and set off down the road…

@tomhfh Tom if someone says "how much are you on" do you add up the value of all your potential sick days and annual leave and then add it to your salary.

@elonmusk @JTLonsdale the allegation is that he was trying to deprive people of their right to vote. so while yes it could be described as 'just posting memes' it's kinda the content of them that matters, right.

@justinc21 @Liv_Boeree there's a legitimate discussion to be had about the values we impart to AI but "chat gpt won't let me say the bad word to stop Armageddon" is not part of it. It should be very obvious that chatgpt is hardcoded to avoid another Tay situation. It's not some woke conspiracy.

I've known several people who avoided taking mental health leave because they worried it would be perceived as 'skiving' and it had universally dire consequences for them. rancid way to frame this article.

@SingleAspect I'm sure this is good advice but I'm afraid I don't think it says brilliant things about the state of the UK that "run away to sea" is a reasonable suggestion for 21 year olds facing prohibitively high rents.

@CharlotteCGill None of these clowns would walk through Tottenham high road unscathed, let alone the back alleys of Bethnal Green. Say nothing of an evening visit to Brixton.

being in journalism is great because when something is like a petty annoyance to you you can get someone vastly more qualified qualified to explain it to you over the course of 1200 words.
Am I being a nostalgia boomer or is phone signal just . awful now? A significant number of places in London where such strenuous tasks as "searching google" will take a good 30 seconds on 4g.
