New USDOT rules:
Passengers now entitled to *cash* refund if a flight is delayed or canceled. Kicks in at 3 hrs domestic, 6 hrs international, if airports change, connections increase, service class downgrade, or for accessibility reasons.
Today's new rule makes it easy for passengers to obtain refunds when airlines cancel or significantly change their flights, delay their checked bags, or fail to provide the ancillary services they purchased.

Starbucks drive-thru lines boggle my mind. It takes practically no time to walk in and pick up a pre-order while people idle in their cars for 15 minutes. So very lazy.
The downfall of Twitter continues, as major public agencies and private corporations abandon their customer service operations here.
Twitter is (was?) the ***best*** place for direct customer service from many companies. It sucks to see it needlessly destroyed by

Since Twitter has changed their conditions, our customer service by direct message on this network is unavailable. Our servicing teams remains available on our other channels

In New York the train operator leans out the side of the train and uses a wooden stick to select a route and set the century old signals.
No, seriously.
I'm absolutely in love with this automatic route selection system on the IJburg tram in Amsterdam. Inductive loops in the track detect the presence and destination of the tram, setting the route automatically and triggering the crossing warning when it's ready to depart. (1/3)
There’s a “pilot shortage.”
Fuel prices are astronomical.
Airlines need to cut back on emissions.
Airspace is constantly constrained.
This somehow exists 5x daily.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it to anyone who will listen. Apple Maps is the far superior map app now. Google Maps looks awful, the transit layer is unusable in dense areas, and it’s full of POIs for irrelevant stuff/ads.
The logistics of flying

across the planet to a football game is quite a production.
I’m told
@vistajet
didn’t just have mechanics at HND in case anything broke, it had a whole second jet there on standby. Basically a private Air Force One.
Back to Tokyo on the outrageously extra Saphir Odoriko. The green car seats swivel, it has two cars of “board room” cabins, and a full restaurant with delicious made to order dishes on board.
This is peak Japanese train stuff, folks.
A round of applause for the

Amtrak's entire existence is held together with double sided scotch tape and paper clips, so this makes sense.
I layered some filters on the

Delta and United resuming flights but are more impacted than others right now.
Why do American railroads hate creating fanfare and holding events for their brand new trains?
In Japan there’d be dignitaries, banners, cute characters running around, and hundreds of people celebrating this achievement. Here? Literally nothing.
It’s after 10pm here in Copenhagen. There’s an automated train arriving every 5 minutes on the M3 lines. The trains are packed.
This is the future US disgusting liberals want on the US.
Take the AirTrain to an idling vehicle driven 99% of the way to the airline terminal? Oh yea, you better believe that's free!
Take the AirTrain an additional 1,500 feet to the subway? Oh yea, you better believe that's an $8.50 fare!

The latest in a string of Southwest incidents. Is anyone at the FAA paying attention???
I don’t know what it takes to trigger the enhanced oversight and regulatory restrictions United had earlier this year, but Southwest is just begging for that right now.
Airbus: Supply chain woes have slowed our delivery plans to 770 this year
Boeing: We may be criminally liable for building unsafe aircraft while certification programs for our new aircraft runs years behind schedule. Oh, and we stranded a couple of astronauts in space last month
The last time this exact scenario played out, E10n bought Twitter in part to stop the tracking of his jet.
If Taylor Swift could repeat that and buy Twitter from him, that'd be cool.

FlightAware reporting Delta+Endeavor canceling 500+ flights today already, with United canceling 250.
Amazingly, American is on day two of canceling a very small number of flights. Why was it able to recover so much better than its competitors?
Tomorrow is going to be another crazy day for US airlines. Systems are still limping back to life, and there basically aren’t any open seats between any major cities.
With hundreds of flights already canceled it’s going to be rough.
Today I learned that part of the reason why
@JFKairport
AirTrain isn't fare-free is because it would directly cost airlines $33 million a year.
Somehow airlines are on the hook to pay about half the AirTrain's operating costs. JetBlue apparently paid ~$16 million in 2023.
For 90 years, we’ve been connecting small towns across Alaska, including Juneau, home of Native artist Crystal Worl, who dreamed of having Indigenized salmon on a plane. Today, that dream became a reality with the X̱áat Ḵwáani (Salmon People) aircraft.
I keep looking at the shower in my hotel room, wondering how this could possibly be right. I’m used to stupid European designs that flood the entire bathroom floor, but this one takes the cake.

And yet you not once mention public transit and the millions of people relying on it every day. You traded the future of every one of the millions of transit riders for literally nothing.
Ah shit, there it is. They’re putting Tweetdeck behind a paywall, and that paywall comes with the blue checkmark that I want nothing to do with.
I’ve had a Tweetdeck window open on my laptop every workday for a decade, but I won’t be paying for it. Not under these circumstances.
We have just launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck. All users can continue to access their saved searches & workflows via by selecting “Try the new TweetDeck” in the bottom left menu.

Forget not properly identifying a train, but can Teslas really not identify a railroad crossing? Does its map data not include grade crossings like Google Maps?
Biden wanted to take Amtrak to DC for his inauguration but they deemed it too dangerous after Jan 6.
Biden wanted to take a 10 hour train ride into an active war zone and they made it work.
Makes you think…
Biden took a secret 10-hour train ride from Poland to make a surprise visit to Zelensky in Kyiv.

Nice to have a badass POTUS in aviators actively backing democracy over autocracy…
This summer there will be a whopping 36 flights operating between London and New York/Newark, with 8,624 seats each day each way across 7 airlines.
That's bonkers.
“Very strict on Commercial Aviation.”
What does this even mean? What, if anything, has he done? There hasn’t been a deadly scheduled airline crash in the US since 2009. The 2017 news is a global achievement.
Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news - it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!

Of course the crash was initiated by some jackass in a stupid poorly modified pickup truck.

I wish everyone at Hawaiian good luck. We don’t have to look that far back at Alaska’s history with acquisitions.
Maybe with Hawaiian it won’t immediately dismantle its entire route network, product, reputation, market position, and fleet. Maybe this time it’ll be different…

In August 2020 United eliminated change/cancel fees and I was shocked the airline would give up that basically free revenue. Today, we know the true impact.
United says more than 10 million passengers have changed flights since, saving customers ‼️“more than $2 billion.”‼️
Rather BIG news from
@united
just now. It's permanently elimating change fees (immediately) and standby fees (Jan 1) for passengers on domestic flights.
These fees were previously $200 and $75, respectively.
Basic Economy, however, still has fees.
