Well attended @teagasc farm walk on the Bowden farm in north Kilkenny earlier today. Key message was assess grass availability and ability to graze, ask for fodder help if you need it and don’t miss the chance to get clover seed in. Keep an eye on @farmersjournal for more

Fantastic closing session to yesterday’s @POSITIVEFARMERS conference. Well done to Will Evans for sharing his story. First time I’ve seen a standing ovation at a farming conference. Dr Paula Carroll had some brilliant advice also.

@whittledaway Pretty sure trees growing like this on peatland is a bad job for peat restoration as it sucks the water out of the peat. I'm no expert but I remember when on @scohaboy bog a few years ago they were careful to remove the volunteer sitka spruce to get the sphagnum moss to grow.

@gloverstweets Well, if the farm taking the slurry has applied less N & has a crop or grass that will take up the N then there should be less losses. The issue with slurry is not that it physically enters the rivers, but that the N content leaches into groundwater and ends up in rivers in time.

@gloverstweets The four criteria set out by the EU Commission when requesting the new derogation maps didn't include location of derogation farms as one of the criteria. There are whole sub-catchments at 220 with no derogation farms in them.
