Some of the best investment opportunities are found in business models that embody what I like to call a 'Confederation of Partnerships.' These models are prevalent in some of the world’s most successful businesses across various industries—whether it's fashion, car rentals, chicken sandwiches, auto and airline parts, HVAC distribution, insurance broking, kitchen manufacturing, or even nuts and bolts distribution. What makes these businesses stand out? Often, they share a common set of qualitative traits that drive their success: - Customer obsession - Long-term vision - Ownership mentality - Decentralized decision-making - Employee empowerment - Separate profit centers and local integration - Healthy internal competition - Ordinary people achieving extraordinary results - Strong organizational culture - Uncapped earnings potential for employees - Transparency & trust - Valuing and investing in employees - Hiring exceptional talent - Entrepreneurial spirit at every level - Commitment to continuous learning - Adaptability to change - Relentless focus on growth - Cultural alignment in acquisitions - Led by passionate business enthusiasts - Focused leadership - Lean headquarters structure - Strong community involvement A great example of this in action is Brown & Brown, a company that exemplifies many of these traits while achieving remarkable success.
