CEO @SkydioHQ Work on drones then do stuff and film it with drones.
Redwood City, CA
Joined January 2010
Today @SkydioHQ launches Dock for X10, a product that completes the vision of autonomous drones doing useful work to keep our communities safer, keep the lights on, and help protect our national security. Drones should work for you - responding to emergencies, inspecting critical infrastructure, and helping people do their jobs better - and with Dock for X10 they do. You can place them wherever critical work happens and a single operator can fly and manage the entire fleet remotely. Dock for X10 is the ultimate automated data capture platform. There is A LOT of amazing technology under the hood, and we had a lot of fun with live demos during the keynote, including completing missions in 30mph winds and rain on stage. But the thing I’m most excited about is the end-to-end solutions Dock for X10 unlocks, especially for public safety. Drone as First Responder is a transformative concept and Dock for X10 makes it scalable and accessible for any agency. On top of Dock for X10, we’ve developed DFR Command, the ultimate software suite to run a DFR program from inception through scale. We're already seeing our customers accomplishing incredible things while reshaping their industries in the process. We can’t wait to see how they will put Skydio to work next.

High or low? Spoiler alert: both! Only @SkydioHQ + @axon_us deliver the solution for whatever the mission demands.
How High Should Drones Fly? The best DFR programs don’t choose between 200 or 400 feet—they excel at both. ✅ 200 ft: Shielded ops for close-range visibility ✅ 400 ft: Beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) for broad situational awareness Axon Air DFR gives agencies the capability they need. Interest in the SkySwap program has been phenomenal. The signal is clear – public safety agencies are ready to phase out legacy drones. And it’s good to see Brinc has since announced a similar program. Creating pathways to help ease the burden of the transition to NDAA-compliant drones is the best approach for our industry, our customers, and their communities. @axon_us @AxonRick

Dock landing reliability update: since announcing Dock at Ascend we’ve done tens of thousands of flights in day, night, rain, and wind all over the country in all kinds of environments, including our worst-case internal stress testing rigs. We have yet to see any landing failures in real-world conditions. The only failures we’ve been able to generate have been in our worst-case stress rigs, and none of them were actual crashes. All of them would have been recovered by the operator telling the drone to take off and land again. Combining real-world flying (no failures) and stress testing, we’re at 99.8% landing reliability. The level of infrastructure, technology, and overall investment that goes into driving this kind of reliability for a robotic system is nuts. Super proud of the work our teams are doing here. (If working on cutting-edge flying robotic systems that save people’s lives is appealing, come work at @SkydioHQ!) The testing rig runs automatically, continuously, in the background, all the time (I’m listening to it buzz right now 🙂). Video of *all* the failures as well as a few of the successes on the latest version of our software.

Very rewarding to see our customers conducting complex missions and impactful missions like these. This weekend, @LVMPD's DFR team helped first responders get a family home safely, before returning home safely to their own families. DFR changes outcomes. This is why we do what we do.
🚨 Technology Saving Lives! 🚨 On #NationalTechnologyDay, we’re proud to spotlight how LVMPD leverages cutting-edge technology to protect and serve our community. This past Saturday around 5 p.m., our Drones as a First Responder (DFR) Unit played a critical role in a challenging mountain rescue at Lone Mountain in the Northwest Valley. A 17-year-old male hiker had become stranded on a large ledge on the mountain’s eastern side. Upon arrival, our DFR team located the individual and provided precise location details to ground rescue teams. For the next four hours, the drone’s powerful spotlight provided continuous lighting for both the rescuers and the stranded hiker, ensuring a safe and efficient operation. @LasVegasFD team employed various methods to retrieve the hiker and successfully reunited him with his family, unharmed. They credited our drone team as a vital component in the operation’s success. This is yet another example of how LVMPD is using innovative technology to save lives and protect our community. Making the shift to programmatic infrastructure inspections with autonomous drones allow @AEPnews technicians to monitor the nation’s largest electricity transmission system (~39,000 miles), assess equipment from anywhere in the world, and respond immediately to system failures. AEP is leading the way in energy utility drone program excellence, helping to deliver safe, reliable, affordable power to 5M+ customers.

With 8M+ residents, various waterways, transit systems, huge gatherings, urban canyons, and the most visited urban park in the country, NYC is a boss-level proving ground for technology in law enforcement. It’s deeply rewarding to see @SkydioHQ's vision for networks of autonomous, remotely operated drones doing useful work and keeping people safer becoming a reality in the biggest city in America. Congratulations to @NYCMayor, @NYPDPC, Deputy Commissioner @NYPDDaughtry, and all @NYPDnews teams putting Drone as First Responder tech to the test and to good use for the people of New York. 2022: 1 active pilot, 1 drone used for search and rescue missions Today: 12 active pilots with 3 drones in service 24/7 conducting SAR, fugitive apprehension operations, large event overwatch, perimeter security, traffic flow monitoring, and daily officer safety support functions. The evolution of the @FlaglerSheriff UAS program under the leadership of Cmdr. Jon Dopp and Sgt. Jorge Fuentes has been extraordinary. Excited to see what’s next as this team continues charting the course to DFR in “Main Street, USA”.
