💬 Let’s talk 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀, where ADS-B airspace is no longer required. New FAA approvals for @LVMPD and @OKCPD expand shielded operations for DFR, building upon @NYPDnews’ groundbreaking waiver announced back in September. Why is this important? It sets a new precedent allowing DFR operations without visual observers over congested areas in both uncontrolled and controlled airspace, with no requirement for complex airspace awareness technology. 17% of calls for service require a multi-drone response. Public safety agencies must account for multiple flights to support responding to their calls for service (CFS). In our unique study for DFR programs, we found that on average, 1/6th of all calls will require a multi-drone response. Will you be ready? 𝟭𝟰𝟯 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆. A long-held belief in DFR is that you need to fly high, typically 350-400 feet. Skydio X10 customers are proving the exact opposite. Over 27,000 Skydio flights conducted by 200+ public safety agencies revealed that the majority are flown under 200ft, with an average altitude of 143ft. In fact, 99% of flight time is at 203 feet or below, despite most agencies having permission to fly up to the FAA’s 400-foot regulation. What makes flying at lower altitudes possible? Skydio autonomy enables operators to confidently navigate obstacles and challenging landscapes like urban canyons with unreliable GPS signals. Plus, noise isn’t an issue for being too conspicuous – Skydio X10 is virtually undetectable beyond typical ambient noise at 150ft. Next time somebody tells you DFR flights need to be at 350-400 feet, ask whether that’s really what’s needed for the mission or if it is just because their drone can’t safely operate at a lower altitude flight. DFR is taking off in Bernalillo County, New Mexico 🛫 In an exciting expansion of their current drone program, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) @BCSONM launched their new 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 (DFR) program, equipped with Skydio X10 drones. This new technology in their arsenal provides a tactical advantage like never before. Drones can now be deployed to scout emergency situations safely before officers arrive. Not only does it decrease response times, but it also helps deputies to de-escalate and ensure they are equipped with the right resources to handle calls.
