Yesterday, I graduated neurology residency
@HenryFordNeuro
and was awarded Resident of the Year award. A milestone in a journey started 8 yrs ago. Nothing I would've accomplished without Allah's blessing, the most merciful, the most gracious

Yesterday I graduated my Vascular Neurology fellowship at
@EmoryStroke
. I was fortunate to be trained by amazing clinicians, scientists and world leaders in the field.
Today I presented my graduation grand rounds on barriers to research in residency. High quality residents' research is possible w/o compromising training or patient care. Barriers are mainly lack of time and mentorship and not lack of resident interest.
@HFHNeuroRes
Just finished going thro my case log for the
#VascularNeurology
fellowship and here is one of the many reasons why
@EmoryStroke
is the best. In 1 yr I helped with; 960 strokes, 82 tPAs, 132 MTs, scrubbed in 66 cases & 101 CUS & 127 TCDs.

I am back from Chicago WFITN anatomy course to Kyoto. I noticed some topics were unfamiliar to the participants and my explanation was not enough for them to understand. One topic was segmental concept of ICA, which Prof. Pierre Lasjaunias proposed in 2000.

You would think that 7 years of travelling back and forth between the US and home would make leaving family and home easier. But no leaving home never got any easier.

I always respected truck drivers for making those really narrow turns and backing up into tiny loading docks but now I have a new respect for them after driving that for 13 hrs (750+ miles). I am just in the picture for size reference 😂
Applying to stroke and interventional neurology fellowships a couple of weeks ago reminded me of the days of applying to residency and how tough it was and made me feel thankful and humbled for how far we went :)

Check this out. We found that CLF was present in 32% of patients, was associated with better collaterals and affected reperfusion rating. CLF identification might improve reperfusion rating & inter-rater reliability

My beautiful wife

has been nothing but supportive, caring and most of all putting up with all the things I have put her through during residency. I wouldn't have dreamed of a better partner.
What's the best stroke program that there is? It's the one that writes a song for you

on large core RCTs. If we are seeing benefit across a range of cores & ASPECTS (except for 0-2 with only a small number of pts in RCTs) including very large cores, then do we even need to bother with getting a CTP and calculating ASPECTS

Look for a program with countless mentors, where you will literally learn something new everyday and tons of clinical exposure where you will triage close to 1000 stroke alerts by the end of your fellowship. I will forever be thankful to have been trained at

Amazed at all the talent in the Vascular Neurology applicants this interview season! If you're interested in an academic career, find a program that has a leader with vision, at least one potential mentor & financial resources for your education

Why can cefepime cause neurological toxicity?
And why is renal failure the main risk factor for this complication?
The answer requires us to learn about cefepime's structure and why it unexpectedly binds to a certain CNS receptor.
