Ahmad Shah Massoud's Mil Mi-35 (Mi-24V export variant) Black 68 resting in the Panjshir valley, 1997. The machine survived all rounds of the Afghan wars and is currently active within the Taliban air force.

@SgtBlitz_fi Beautiful! I first thought it was one of those 'find a Finnish soldier' photos 😅

@Momiktk1986 @TheMigMan2 These two jets are well known, unlike some of the other aircraft that defected to Pakistan. According to various sources, one Afghan MiG-21 landed at Kohat air base in 1986. It could have been that Red 378.

@Momiktk1986 @TheMigMan2 So the MiG Red 378 is not photoshopped, after all? I saw the photo before and precisely because there's that Pakistani pilot I thought it's fake. Morover, the number looks quite different from what was usually applied on Afghan aircraft. This one is too edgy.

@TheMigMan2 It's real, was taken in 89, the photographer's name is Guenay Ulutuncok. Can't find his collection online right now.

@BuschModelar @trip_to_valkiri A GB T-34 with a red insigia on the turret. Could be the same as used on other GB vehicles. By the time of the civil war, T-34s probably were turned to scrap, though.

This is one of the very few photos of the Taliban Su-22s I've been able to find through the past 20 years. The confirmed serials are 069 (Su-22UM3K), 072 (UM3K) and 82 (M4). The source of the screenshot is this YT interview with a former Taliban pilot.

@safarpub Means they were Massoud/Rabbani government men, right? Or some other faction?

Could anyone ID this system? By the time this photo was taken in Kabul in 2002, it had long been out of service, having previously been operated by Afghan air defense forces.
