Another reason I like the A320 and not the A321. A321 on this leg = a lower cruising altitude and a significant weather deviation. An A320 would have easily cruised 2,000ft above, avoiding a deviation entirely. A Global would've gone 8k above.

Super excited to go into work today, not only because I get to fly, but today we have been allotted a brand new Airbus A321! Longer, heavier (in terms of payload capacity) and more powerr than the 320 usually flown! The 321XLR (due 2023) with ⬆️fuel capacity can do Ind-Aus!

About 11 years ago, Jaguar had loaned me an XKR-S for the Holi weekend, and I was driving it from Worli to my place in Chembur. Navigation was not the XKR's highlight (this was a 5L supercharged V8 with many carbon fiber parts), and I took a wrong turn and ended up in the heart

Recovering from a sore throat, but my ear is still blocked, so it was the easiest decision to call in sick for my 4 sector flight today. Crew or pax, if your ear is blocked, and you subject it to 3 or 4 pressurization cycles in a short period, you risk damaging it. Not worth it.

An airport we fly the A320 to has a 1.8km runway, which is considered short. A NOTAM has reduced this further to 1.68km now (shortest runway in the country presently for an A320). Came in today, and now I think Patna is a long runway 😭😭

New app looks like we're leaving breadcrumbs behind, so if we're lost we can turn & go back, but smart thing is actually using iPad's accelerometer to monitor turbulence & generate reports after we land. The last decade has seen the iPad getting smarter than the aircraft surely!

A 'warm' 41 deg C at DXB today. We are filling up our A320's fuel tanks to the brim here & it takes a good 17 minutes to fill up that 18.6 tons ⛽
Fun fact: the volume (in liters) gets filled up before the weight (in kg) since the density of fuel drops at such high temp

Since the A380 is gracing most TLs today -
Compared to the 747 & 340, the A380 doesn't have thrust reversers on outboard engines. By deleting outboard THR REV, Airbus saved 1/2 tonne of weight/engine, reduced maintenance 💵 and risk of FOD damage due to the wingspan!
