a list of my major threads: this thread on kingship and "jovial" authority
okay, let's do a @threadapalooza thread! This year's theme: kingship, in the archetypal sense Background: I'm a generally evangelical Christian minister who's thought a lot about this for the past few years this is gonna be pretty colored by my engagement with the bible

“Orthodoxy reduces variance” sums up my beef with it. I want weirdness in the world, vast strangeness and new ideas; I want, most of all, for my flock to become themselves. Orthodoxy reduces individualization for the sake of communal cohesion/power
But Christianity does not consistently produce more Christlike people than my mentors. It’s not obvious to me that it produces significantly more Christlike people than other paths I know. It reduces variance, like all orthodoxies; and Christ is nothing if not an outlier.

One thing that excites me about AI is it promises to put the educated classes out of work, and dissatisfied educated people seem more likely to cause institutional change It sucks that that’s what it takes to get jubilee—selfishness, not wisdom or justice—but womp womp
It’s gonna be great when we realize that if we automate labor, we can all go off and do interesting things if we’re just willing to split the robot’s proceeds nicely The intervening century might suck though
