Wow thanks for all the support folks! I’ve been working on this project today: larger font, options for single/group captioning powered by
@DeepgramAI
, and a static badge mode as suggested by
@bitandbang
Masks making it hard to understand people either audibly or because you rely on lip reading? Just got this hacked together - it displays my speech in real time with
@DeepgramAI
!
Today’s achievement is probably the cutest to date for
@RedRoxProjects
and I. As of this morning we welcome Sage Serenity Lewis into the world - you’re gonna kick ass! 💪🦵🍑
It seems I’m looking for a job. I’m a developer advocate with 9 years of experience spanning the whole range of devrel responsibilities from education, community, product, and events. I’m based in Berlin, and ideally looking for a Senior+ IC role or to manage a team.
Baby alert! That’s right - it’s ours! Meet Nova Melody Lewis, born March 27. Once again in awe of
@RedRoxProjects
for growing and pushing out a whole damn human - it looked tough. Can’t wait for them to meet Sage (our first kid) hopefully tomorrow.
Happy to report that I have accepted an offer for a role and I'm very excited. Just sorting paperwork, but wanted to share the good news and thank everyone who has helped this last month with advice and intros. Good stuff ahead!
As requested by a bunch of you there is now live translation built into this
@DeepgramAI
-powered wearable captions device! Next step will take a few days but it is the device casing so it can be more easily worn. Thanks for the kind words. Deepgram info at
Really thrilled to share that this is my first day as a Developer Advocate for
@OrbitModel
. I first used it about 6 months ago and totally see the value it brings in helping community builders understand their groups. Look forward to sharing more and helping you build with it.
Also gonna make it more wearable and less “just about staying upright on my pocket”, make font bigger, try and only show my speech and not others around me, etc. But not bad for a couple of hours of work.
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Developer Relations Lead at
@directus
. From the moment I discovered their Open Data Platform, I saw the potential in helping developers build what they need quicker. Very cool stuff.
@threepointone
@jevakallio
@SylwiaVargas
Didn't you literally just raise capital and build out the team? Feels like the kind of realization you wanna make before hiring folks. No such thing as a stable job in this climate, but jobs are the source of people's stability and this feels kinda yikes ngl.
I've rewritten this post a couple of times to try and make it insightful without being a book. Hopefully you will find this summary of
#WomenOfReact2020
A/V useful, and please do tell me if you want more detail in areas and I can write more posts!
Fun fact: in the tunnel between the Piccadilly and Jubilee lines at Green Park the tiling shows how close you are to each line (mostly navy on the Piccadilly end and mostly grey on the Jubilee end). Noticed a few years ago but only just had the time to take some pics.
Getting there on the new home office setup! Still some way to go incl my camera frame backdrop and album art for the wall behind my monitor, but it’s a good start.
This week was my last at Orbit. I got to meet and work with some super talented folks who care a lot about community.
Excited to start a new role soon. Eyes peeled for that. 👀 🎉
Almost timeeeee for
#WomenOfReact2020
. I’m thankful that my team
@VonageDev
gave some of my time work on this great initiative and make sure it can happen. 💕

@aweary
The idea is that await sleep(NUMBER) will pause a JS script in its tracks for a number of milliseconds (2000ms is 2s). The joke is that the negative number will speed up the site.
I once was accepted to speak at a conference, realised I would have to pay for travel + expenses myself (became unemployed), and politely withdrew before the lineup was published. That's a totally ok thing to do, and I'll get to give that talk when the time is right.
I'm finally in a job where it's so clear to me where the chances for personal and professional growth are, and that I have the people in place to make it happen. It's been a while since the last time I felt this (at
@VonageDev
), and it's very refreshing.
Community and event organizers often write a Code of Conduct, and call it a day, but that's only half the job! You also need to create and train people on an incident response policy. I want to share a starting point for yours - and I call it DIAR. 🧵
Today is my last day as part of the
@VonageDev
team. Really proud of the work I got to do and the amazing people I did it with. Some highlights in the thread…
For the last few weeks I’ve been working on developing a six-part course for folks at Vonage to learn to code from scratch, and it kicks off today 🎉🎉🎉 Today it’s HTML & CSS, but also covering JS, Node, Databases and using some of our own APIs. I’m pumped!
If you told me at the start of the pandemic that I would be able to run an entire conference from one laptop screen at home, I would struggle to agree. Tooling has come on so far.
#YouGotThisConf
In a month today I'll be joining the lovely folks at
@NexmoDev
/
@Vonage
as a Developer Advocate for London. Excited to be part of their team, going back to DevRel and have more meaningful engagement with my local tech communities 🥑 Exciting times ahead!
Happy birthday to my amazing partner in crime
@RedRoxProjects
! The last year in particular has been really awesome and I can’t wait to spend the next trip round the ☀️ with you!
We’ve launched our initial version, had it run for a bit, done a retro, and are taking all of our learnings forward for v2. Launching on Product Hunt soon.
A reminder that I'm running a conference in London in January aimed at junior developers and designers. Not a tech conf, but about all the softer skills no one talks about needed for a happy healthy work life.

We're looking for sponsors 💖
9 years ago today was my first day at my very first hackathon. What an utterly life-changing experience that was. A year on I’d be volunteering for them and not long after running them.
The stream for
#womenofreact2020
is going great. It’s all working super nicely, caption game still strong, and my laptop hasn’t melted.
@RedRoxProjects
has entertained the dog and bought me food so I don’t have to move away. She rocks!
Had a 1:1 with my boss today. Expressed that I am struggling to prioritise the large list of very different tasks on my plate. 5 mins later, with him, I was able to not only do it, but understand why and the rationale to apply in future. 🥳
I just applied for, confirmed, and had a loan paid into my account by
@monzo
in less than 5 minutes. That was just incredible UX. Everything was clear and just great.
✅ Kept a child alive for six months. Thanks to
@RedRoxProjects
for assisting this task. For the next milestone we’ll be dealing with teething and weening. These tasks with cost 1000000 story points.
I'm wondering if there's scope to run a JS conference which is purposefully aimed at people who are less confident in their JS ability. So there will be 'cool things', but they don't require a load of prior knowledge or experience. Thoughts?
📢👄 Today I joined
@DeepgramAI
as a Senior Developer Advocate. 1) It's a developer toolkit for understanding and working with voice data. 2) Reminder to self to not do audio development with headphones. 3) I won't be eating chill peppers
Super excited to announce that
@yougotthisconf
has parterned with
@devrelcon
to bring a core skills track to DevRelCon London in September.
🗳️ You can submit a talk until May 12.
Because everyone is like “what happened” I’ll try and tldr. Last speaker gave a talk and, for whatever reason, decided to shit on a number of other talks and all attendees and speakers involved in Web3 in a pretty personal way.
We would like to make a brief statement.
We had conversations with our closing speaker in preparation for the event and we were not prepared for what happened.
If you are seeing this then please take a moment to tell
@RedRoxProjects
how damn cute they are. I can’t even describe how good of a job they’re doing as we hit our first Mother’s Day with our +1 ❤️😭
It seems I’m looking for a job. I’m a developer advocate with 9 years of experience spanning the whole range of devrel responsibilities from education, community, product, and events. I’m based in Berlin, and ideally looking for a Senior+ IC role or to manage a team.

They’re not gendered - they can be pink, yellow, cyan, and green, and this just happened to be pink. I can see why you’d make that assumption based on Amy’s voice but don’t worry I wouldn’t do that 😊
Today marks the start of
#BASHFestival
. We've been working hard over the last 9+ months to get this event ready for young people across the country and I could not be more excited.
We have 237 people registered to a conference. Setup is tomorrow. Got that pre-event sinking feeling that doesn't go away regardless of how many times you do this. I am very excited and hope we do it justice.
One thing that I will say about the last 24 hours is that it has felt like the biggest group hug ever and it’s been very very lovely. Thank you for all the kind words it really has meant a lot.
Hey Brits - I’d be careful before you scoff at recent events in the USA because we’re only a couple of steps behind. This is also a super right-wing country with maniacs in power, an electorate that enable them, and a pointless opposition.
Happy Monday! I'm hiring a Developer Advocate focused on guides + reference at
@directus
(with community + engineering as a secondary). Global remote, full time, with loads of support to grow. I'm having a blast and happy to answer any questions in DMs 💖
We very rarely share pics of our kids, but today Sage met their favorite character and it was so heartwarming. I’ve just had a fantastic day of seeing them so happy.
I’m at
@emfcamp
- come say hi! I’m running a workshop on using
@DeepgramAI
to build the software for a live captioning badge Sat @ 10, and a
@playbattlesnake
beginner workshop Sun @ 10. If you come find me I also have
@yougotthisconf
sticker packs to give away!
I DID IT!
Thank you so much to everyone who helped bring this project together, those who playtested and those who proofread this report.
Wicked supervisor and a fun project that when I say 'I'll probably use this again and keep building on it' I actually mean it.
Worked at
@OrbitModel
for a month today, and I'm having a blast 🚀 So far I've built 4 community integrations, a helper library, a starter for a CLI, helping put together , and various other bits. Nice team, good culture, values that align with mine.
We’ve also decided to post minimal photos/information about Sage online to allow her to, eventually, be able to create her own online identity (to explain why we’ll still be posting pics of our dog more than our child) 😂
