It was wild growing up in the 90s, wanting to program in C so badly, but not having enough money to buy Borland Turbo C/C++.
That was a large part of what got me so interested in Free and Open Source Software. It was liberating.
Freedom.
The Mocha / Livescript / Javascript renames were quite a ride. For me it was so liberating to have a free to use interpreted language that could do UI stuff. In 1995/6 I couldn't afford a compiler. Learned so much with it.

There are many who claim that those who are outraged do not know RMS. I know Paul, and π― believe his accounts.
I worked at the FSF for 3 years and volunteered for over 6 years β that ended in 2004. I witnessed misogyny, sexual objectification, and abuse carried out by RMS. I banded together with my coworkers, formed a union, negotiated a contract, and was elected shop steward.
