@Remisa_Arte
I did two previous historically accurate versions years ago in my own style but I didn't like how they came out. So I made this edit instead to see what it looks like in the original style.
Olmec clothing. Based on murals, stone sculptures, figurines, monuments, reliefs and stelea. I will later in the coming week post more in detail about some of the figures.
In addition to comics and historical illustrations I also have a passion for historical clothing studies. Here are some from
#mesoamerica
of the
#Aztecs
,
#Purepecha
,
#Maya
(
#Yucatan
peninsula and
#Guatemala
). You can find higher res versions on my patreon.

There's a lot of good books I recommend (see pics). But I also look at art from the culture like figurines, codices, murals, paintings as well as any contact period writings or some colonial era descriptions like Relaciones Geográficas.
I decided to update the Maya postclassic clothing set I did in 2012. This time my focus is on the late postclassic (instead of just postclassic) and now I have more references to make it more historically accurate.

It's just a design that was used. Though there is a similar looking glyph I think de Landa drew (not sure if it's at all related). He also noted the use of red bodypaint women used which had a nice aroma.
Shared this on IG. Teaser of the new comic I am working, Dream Rider which is a mesoamerican sci fi. Originally a 6 page comic I later expanded and co-wrote with

Maya lady of the court during the late classic period. Her sarong is based on a mural of Chilonché. The mural behind the woman is based on the mythic scene involving the young maize deity being dressed in a the watery place.

They did use red paint on their bodies and faces, including their lips. I don't think that's eyeliner, just the style of the studio. The rest is fine too. I mainly focused on redoing the clothing not trying to rework the whole thing otherwise I might as well redraw it all.
Happy 10 years to my comic

! 🍻🥂A decade ago I published my first book and it's changed a ton since then. Thank you all who have supported throughout this time! I leave you with some characters in the comic. Most of whom will appear by the fourth book.
Sorry for the absence, been working on a book. It's 24 pages so far full of illustrations and info on Mesoamerican fashion. This is part of a trial limited run I'll be selling at SF Zinefest Sept 1st. Lots of unpublished art

The myth, but the films setting is very clearly based on the Maya. There's puuc style designs, other characters dressed as Maya and even the priest conforms to classic period beauty standards. Compare his face to kings in Palenque art for instance. Even the word chel is Mayan.
A little preview of the next work I have been working on Aztec (includes Mexica, Acolhua and Tepanec) ceremonial clothing. I should mention I am still updating the postclassic Maya and Tarascan/P'urepecha sets. 1/3

She has her own personal bodyguards, the ornamental Tzitzimime, who while fierce looking have little actual combat experience unlike the Liquidators of Men.
Very good start to what looks to be a promising series! I noticed some nice details like Cocijo being mentioned in Danibaan (and they used the Zapotec name!), the axtlahualli hairstyle, the way blood and sacrifice was used. Congrats!

A reconstruction scene I did based on the murals from Calakmul, the Classic period Maya city ruled by the Serpent (Kan) dynasty.
This scene depicts a woman in a diaphanous blue huipil? holding an olla over a servants head.
