My messages at #G20Brazil today: 1️⃣ Criminals use their massive profits to buy people, buy power, buy murders, buy impunity, eroding trust and resilience in society. We must stop corruption and fight organised crimes like illegal mining, trafficking in drugs and human beings.

3️⃣ In the European Union we must put our own house in order too. The EU now needs to quickly approve the tough anti-corruption rules I proposed last year. I call on Parliament and Council to urgently start trilogue negotiations.

4️⃣ Civil society plays a crucial role to prevent and combat corruption. We need civil society to speak out and say what politicians and governments sometimes don’t want to hear and ask difficult questions.
