@ScienceMagazine @BAS_News @paleo_dyn @AWI_Media Climate modelling results suggest that Antarctic ice sheet growth and the resultant Southern Ocean sea ice expansion caused global cooling and northward shift of tropical rain belt. This prompts rapid growth of the NH ice sheet, eventually triggering the MPT.

At ~0.9 Ma, NH ice volume for the first time dominated global ice volume changes during glacials.
