Trump got more wins than people might realize. First, he got Mexico and Canada to bend the knee while still having the tariff menace on the horizon. Second, as the U.S. tries to decouple from being the global hegemon, it established its dominant position on its sphere of influence just like Russia wants on Ukraine and China wants on Taiwan. Third, Canada and Mexico will now stay far more muted regarding whatever Trump decides for Panama, Ukraine and possibly even Greenland. We all remember that Canada under Trudeau was a Ukraine war cheerleader. Fourth, this signals to Europe that Canada and Mexico will not be too vocal by their side in opposing Trump. The message is “Bend the knee or face my Dragons on top of Vladimir’s WhiteWalkers” And that’s on top of the fentanyl issue concessions. Trump starts his presidency with a bang :)
