The University of California’s 10 campuses will no longer permit students to erect protest encampments or wear identity-concealing face masks and will enforce policies requiring them to identify themselves when UC employees ask them to.

Yesterday I couldn't sleep
I wished I could escape from my head
It wasn't just the chaos outside but also inside
What if I become pieces, will I feel comfortable?
Even outside the sound of a reconnaissance plane
Listen to it
Help us from hell
Calling all aspiring cartoonists, graphic novelists, visual artists, and anyone curious to learn more about these mediums! Come join Leila Abdelrazaq in "Comix for a New World," where she will guide participants in imagining new futures through comics 🎨🎨🎨
It recently came to our attention that Jamaica Kincaid accepted the Dan David Prize and traveled to the Entity to accept the award. In light of this, we have canceled our upcoming workshop about her work. Don’t go down in history a disgrace.
To the authors nominated this week for the 2024 Giller Prize:
I know it’s a professional sacrifice to withdraw, but this is a picket line you really don’t want to cross
Elbit Systems profits help fund this award.
Until Scotiabank divests, the prize money is drenched in blood.
Mario Savio and the free speech movement at Berkeley fought for the right to distribute political fliers on campus bc it wasn’t allowed at the time. Guess that’s all been rolled back and we’re pre-68 again!🎈
Teachers College, Columbia University dropped 11 new policies last week. It’s now against the rules to protest, table, distribute flyers, or do essentially any activity that expresses “views, disagreement, or support regarding a given subject” without approval from the university
We've raised $50K! Ty to everyone who has taught a workshop, signed up for one, helped us design graphics, ship books, printed flyers, donated or shared info about us. And ty the most to our friends in GZ for sharing a part of your life with us and giving us a way to help 🤍
this was one of the motivating forces behind starting workshops for gaza 💓 to divest entirely from the complicit prestige circuit and build something new. no honorarium, no profit, no cv line, just direct aid to gaza. that's what we're doing.
I will say for myself that centering the freedom of Palestine has freed me of career/prestige-driven writing aspirations. My dreams for my writing now exceed getting published in xyz magazine. I’m dreaming of building something new now.
Hamza sent us this photo of the solar panels he was able to buy thanks to everyone who has been signing up for workshops. Now he can charge his laptop and take classes online with his university ❤️ Plz keep donating to him, it’s making a difference:
We have some wonderful news. Thanks to everyone that has been buying books from our
@openpoetrybooks
storefront, Mohammed’s family now has enough to evacuate. We saw a video of the cash safe in their hands today. Tysm to everyone who bought a book ❤️
Urgently needed esims are running out. One way to support if you can't send them on your own is to donate to our friends at Crips for eSIMS for Gaza. The project has many volunteers who have been working tirelessly for months to do this work for you:
We’ve updated our bookstore site so that all proceeds from books bought here go straight to
@munigaza
meaning
@openpoetrybooks
is generously foregoing all profit. If you’re part of a book club or teaching a class, now is the time to order books —>
Hey Friends,
Given the requests from many of our supporters, we’ve extended the
#LifeForGaza
campaign until October 10th, with the hope of fully reaching our goal in the remaining days.
Donate and share, we are doing our best, please HELP US!
Please read this important update: Workshops4Gaza started with the small but daunting goal of continuing the kind of learning for Palestinian liberation that we found so inspiring taking place at student encampments and on the streets,
We’re bringing you a workshop with a writer on The Bear! 👨🏻🍳🍳 Catherine will cover the ins and outs of the TV/Film industry, polishing your script, getting it read, landing a spot in writer’s rooms. All proceeds go to Sary Abu Musa’s fam ❤️Sign up here:
I don’t know what to say. Please donate to this little girl whose jaw was blown off by an Israeli bomb. She received only 2 donations yesterday. What is wrong with us? Kamala Harris got $60 million. Please please donate to this girl.
Researching or writing about revolutionary figures or histories does not make you revolutionary, especially if you undermine decolonial struggles in the present to do so. Then again, the function of academia has always been to contain revolutionary ideas by doing exactly this.
friends, we are still desperately in need of experienced graphic designers who can regularly help us design graphics for Instagram as we continue to publicize new workshops. if that's you, please reach out! your help is very necessary to sustain this project <3
Let’s all wish Dana a safe flight to Ireland where she can finally finish her university studies after the Enemy destroyed everything she and her family had. Let this be a reminder to everyone that we can do more than we think we can. Love and safe travels Dana ✈️✈️✈️
Some honest words: Over the past two months, I have managed to gather around $22,800 thanks to all of you. In about 12 hours, my plane will take off for Ireland, where I will begin a new life, with new friends and everything new.

I can’t believe only 4 ppl have signed up for a workshop with *the* Fatimah Asghar?! And all the proceeds go to Palestinian families?? I know that can’t be right…
@asgharthegrouch
is leading a creative writing workshop for us! On August 22, 6-8pm EST, come to “Redefining Words: Through Poetry,” where participants will examine commonly used words (particularly relational words like “wife,” “sister,” etc.) and redefine them for ourselves ✨
Our next workshop "Listening Against Genocide" is led by the brilliant
@crysbaik
. Rather than treating oral history as a method of producing intellectual property, we will consider what it means to listen, sit with, and ethically steward memories in a time of ongoing war (cont.)
More writers should be publishing interviews like this that illustrate the urgency of the situation on the ground. Too few people in the West are
grasping the reality of what people in GZ are facing. Make a zine, a comic. Convey the details beyond the headlines.
Doing an interview with the extraordinary young poet Batool Abu Akleen (
@MPTmagazine
's new poet-in-residence) over WhatsApp, and I asked her to say something about where she is now.
Will share the whole interview soon.
We’re matching up to $3500 today, if all goes well and folks keep donating for the rest of the day we’ll have gotten $7K to
@munigaza
by end of day! Please keep donating even if only $5 or $10!
Another reason why
@munigaza
campaign is CRUTIAL & should be given priority right now. Emergency Committee crews in Gaza's Municipality continue maintaining & fixing the drainage system in different areas of the city to prevent flooding.

New workshop announcement! "Colonialism and the Heritage of Genocide" (August 14, 1-2:30 PM EST) will be run by the esteemed Marxist historian Harry Harootunian. Prof. Harootunian will discuss the ongoing genocide in Palestine through the lens of the Armenian genocide (1915-16).
We are OVERJOYED for Dana, who has finally received her visa and can now finish her degree at a university in Ireland. This is a testament to her steadfastness and to the power of community support ⭐️ Thank you
@crysbaik
@DonMeeChoi
and all who signed up for workshops 🍓🍓🍓
friends. how do we get profs with six figure incomes to give to the campaigns we're supporting and to understand that this is their collective obligation as ppl working for institutions that produce the knowledge and technologies for genocide?!! we are full of rage and despair rn
Without exaggeration, this is one of the most important pieces of literary criticism to be published in recent memory. A reminder esp to the academics: there is not a single piece of scholarship more useful in narrating Palestinians than what we are capable of producing ourselves
Every workshop we do generates funds that go directly to Palestinians. No one makes money off of this work. Direct aid is not “humanitarian aid.” It is one of the most tangible ways we can mitigate the horror right now. Join us 👋
Alright y'all we've stalled out and haven't had any sign-ups for the last day. Please help us keep going. Another evacuation order was just issued and the need is immense. You can help by signing up for the the following workshops: 🧵

Hey all, Jehan, Refaats cousin, still needs help. It’s not a one and done, please consider setting a reminder on your phone and donating $20 or more per week. Skip eating out once this week. It’s a minuscule sacrifice compared to what she and Refaat have sacrificed.
Have modern parenting books mentioned how we can convince a child,that he might go hungry
and be deprived of life?
And that he might see his mother or father torn to pieces
just like that? And in all ugliness?
Our children are psychologically distorted
Beyond excited to introduce our next workshop, “Pipeline Colonialism” by Joshua Clover. This workshop will explore the relationship among oil pipelines, colonial projects, and anti-colonial struggles with particular attention to the history of Palestine 🔥

Abandon the university and the idea it sells you of progress, a life of the mind, community or any other nonsense. It is part and parcel of the colonial state apparatus including the police.
Tucked into a document purportedly offering clarification on policy, new NYU conduct guidelines intro an unprecedented expansion of protected classes to include “Zionism” (a political ideology, which has no business in a protected category).

Well today was not a good day for sign-ups. Will keep trying tomorrow. Please take a look at the workshops we’ve put together and the brilliant people who are donating their time and expertise to this project and consider signing up for one or two:

just astonishing how some writers and academics will look at some of the worst things in the world happening to people *right now* and go "yep that's my next book"
someone has offered up to a $300 match to get some momentum going to raise the urgently needed $2300 for Dana's school fees in Ireland. She already had to forego an offer in Australia because of lack of funds. 6 more days...let's do this together!! (dm us your receipt!)
After severe suffering, our home was destroyed, and our livelihood and all our possessions . But amidst all this darkness, I obtain a lifeline acceptance to study in Ireland. I have 7 days to pay the tuition fees, and therefore, I am requesting your help.
Please read every tweet in this thread. A crucial perspective shift: seeing our donations and efforts to raise money not as charity but as one front in this genocidal war, one which we all have a duty to fight.

Sign-ups have massively slowed down this week. Visual artists, cartoonists, graphic novelists, please help us get the word out about the incredible Leila Abdelrazaq's workshop, "Comix for a New World" happening in just a few days! All proceeds go to our friend Hamza in GZ ❣️
🚨🚨 SEPT. 29TH IS ONE WEEK AWAY 🚨🚨 that means you have just six days to sign up for the amazing Leila Abdelrazaq's workshop, "Comix for a New World," where you'll learn how to draw comics that envision speculative roadmaps towards liberation ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lest anyone is confused, this project does not exist because it's "for a good cause" but because it is our moral and revolutionary duty to support the Palestinian people by any means necessary, money being a crucial aspect of that support but by no means the only one.
The occupation of Palestine is deeply political. Genocide and occupation are political. The reducing of settler colonialism, capitalism etc into a “Humanitarian issue” to be solved by “awareness,” NGOs and charity are settler capitalist tactics to subdue revolutionary mobilizing.
81 thousand views on this tweet and 15 sign-ups. Still a pretty low ratio, but it's better than 0! Thanks to all who have signed up today 💘 Every cent goes directly to Palestinian families who urgently need the funds.
Students protested the killings in Gaza today. Counter-protesters waved flags, laughed, jeered. Other students easily walked around both groups. A group of us faculty watched for 2 hours. It was peaceful. Then DPSS attacked and dragged away at least 2 of our

Where is the outcry from west. universities over Palestinian students being kidnapped from their homes? Over Palestinian students studying for their exams from the rubble of their bombed out houses? Over Palestinian students crowdfunding their visa fees after surviving genocide?
Dania Hanatsheh, Birzeit University student, kidnapped by the Zionist-US occupation forces in the early hours of August 19 in Ramallah al-Tahta, occupied Palestine. She is a liberated prisoner freed in the resistance's exchange in November 2023.
