I have a theory: The Nizari Ismailis, often romanticized (e.g., “Assassin’s Creed, so cool!”) benefit from a perception of mystique and aesthetic appeal. Those unfamiliar with their history—or inclined toward idealization—may view them through rose-tinted glasses. This isn’t a dig on the OP, btw

@GameOverStation I should whisper to my eraser, "You die so the rest of us can be free!" … Then later, I’ll find it in the trash in a pile of baby diapers and a banana peel.

@movetomuscat @RealHasanSpiker By the way, all this 👆applies to Howard's original Conan stories. I'm not talking about stories written by authors after him (whether prose or in comic book form)

It might sound super basic or vanilla at this point, but Tolkien’s work is always a solid choice. I’d recommend starting him with The Hobbit—it’s less complex than the Lord of the Rings trilogy and has a more "upbeat" vibe. Perfect for a 10-year-old diving into fantasy. Another series I loved as a kid is The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. It’s got adventure, surprising depth, and a great coming-of-age story. If you’re looking for more options, consider Redwall by Brian Jacques (I inhaled these!) or The Earthsea books by Ursula K. Le Guin (I wasn't the biggest fan of these, tbh). Still, both are suitable for younger readers. One heads-up: Robert E. Howard’s stuff (Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane) is great, but it’s definitely not kid-friendly. Maybe save that for when he’s older.

@AvdullahYousef Your meme “adverts” in the issue are excellent—worth a look just for those alone. Good stuff.

Great point. Another layer to consider: the method of “talaqi”and “isnad” isn’t just about information transfer—it’s about the transmission of spiritual states. This might explain why the ‘ulema often view autodidacts with subtle disdain. Knowledge here isn’t just learned; it’s lived and passed through ahwal.
