@Oh__Cleveland @SPOTNEWSonIG Not all those buildings are abandoned - I don't think any of them are, actually. There's a few companies in there ranging from roofing and construction to some wholesalers.

@WindyCityWxMan Magnificent aircraft. We got to see one do a water drop during the air show at EAA AirVenture a few years back and also go to ride a boat around it moored in Lake Winnebago.

@ScannerChi Oh yeah, they connect - this entire area probably wouldn't exist as we know it if it weren't for the discovery by Louis Jolliet & Jacques Marquette that the rivers connect. The Des Plaines intersects the Kankakee River, & the Illinois River & goes ALL the way to the Mississippi

@ScannerChi Chicago Ship & Sanitary Canal proper is only 28 miles long, from Ashland Ave. in the city to the Lockport lock & dam where it joins the Des Plaines River.

@ScannerChi Yeah, usually they start counting from a set "point zero" like this one outside Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris where all French roads originate from. I know they do them for roads and railroad right-of-ways. I didn't know they did them for waterways.
