West Chicago Community High School received a telephone threat early this afternoon. The decision was made for the safety of students and staff, to evacuate the building as a precaution. No reported injuries, evacuation is precautionary.

Today we remember the service and sacrifice of Ofc Michael Browning.
30 years ago on April 20, 1992, Ofc Browning was killed while responding to a car dealership burglary. He was more than a police officer, he was a son, fiancé, neighbor, friend, he was part of our community.

Today we celebrated the career of Police Chief Michael Uplegger who will be retiring at the end of this month. We want to wish Chief Uplegger the best of luck in the future and thank him for everything he has done for the City of West Chicago.

July 4th, 6pm-2am...79 calls for police assistance. 79 times you needed our help. 79 times we were there for you. In 8 hours, our officers issued citations, confiscated illegal fireworks, educated people on laws/ordinances and kept our community safe!

Our police family grew by one more this morning when Jean-Claude Chassagne took his Oath of Office as Chief Fleury swore him in. Today he is signing papers and getting fitted for his uniform, next week he will begin training at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy in Glen Ellyn.

It is with deepest sympathies that we say good bye to Officer Drake Darlak who passed away on February 22nd. We were lucky enough to call him our brother in blue from 1995-2014. Ofc Darlak, it was an honor and privilege to work with you and call you a friend, you will be missed.

This year, we launched our first Read with a Cop summer series event at the library. Thank you to everyone who was involved and to everyone who came by. We've had a lot of fun, we've made new friends, we built good relationships and we hope to do this again soon!

Today marks 31 yrs since Ofc Michael Browning was killed in the line of duty while responding to a burglary. When he confronted the suspect, the suspect struck Ofc Browning with a stolen vehicle. On this day we remember the sacrifice Ofc Michael Browning made for this community.

Last night we put our Explorers to the test. They handled a call and wrote a report. They were nervous, they giggled, they didn't know exactly what to do but they did AMAZING! Next month we'll build on what they learned last night and we cannot wait to see how great they'll do!
