I say again... this is almost as much precip as some areas have had SINCE #HELENE. Bridges & roads that have been repaired but are not paved and ditched could see washouts.
Multiple rounds of rainfall expected across the region starting tonight and continuing into Thursday. Here is the latest storm total precip forecast. Minor flooding issues may occur Wednesday into Thursday for some areas that locally receive heavy rainfall. #ncwx #scwx #gawx

Agreed. The crazy thing is, there are spots around AVL that have only had 5" of rain SINCE Helene. Not enough to test washing out of roads/bridges where repairs are not complete.
With heavy rain in the forecast, I think there’s reason to be prepared despite this being a fairly typical 2-5” isolated 6”+ event. First and foremost, a lot of bridges were washed out by Helene, and some folks are simply driving through the water to access their home these days. It wouldn’t take much rain to increase streamflow enough to cut off access to those homes again. Secondly, some road infrastructure is still quite vulnerable, especially for those living off the beaten path. I took this photo yesterday outside of Barnardsville, and despite the work that’s already been done, this road still looks far from stabilized. Finally, the last update I heard stated that the turbidity situation was still fairly delicate in Asheville’s reservoir. I can’t find the article, but back in November/December, it was reported that heavy spring/summer rains could jeopardize some of the progress that’s been made since Helene. There’s no reason to panic, because this rain event won’t be anything like Helene, but it also can’t hurt to be prepared for some unusual impacts such as the ones I mentioned here. Personally, I’ll be filling up my tub this week just in case…
