AUGUST LONG-RANGE FORECAST IS OUT👶🌦🌈
Showers followed by sunshine and rainbows - but dirty diapers loom for the fall! Blessed to announce the impending birth of our first child. So excited to meet you baby Bansen!

18 years ago, 2977 people went to sleep not knowing what the next day would bring. 2555 civilians, 422 firefighters/law officers/EMTs. In one single moment, life was never the same. Before bed tonight, take a moment to remember all you are thankful for in life.

The next New England total solar eclipse is not going to be for a long while. If you think you'll be around in 2079, this one will ride up the 95 corridor from Baltimore to Maine! (I would be 90, so a longevity dice roll)
Man, some of these social media comments make it seem like people were rooting for a direct hit. Truly head-scratching. Why can't we all be HAPPY that the storm took a last minute turn and missed a devastating hit on our beautiful island??
@lindsay62931163
It's from like 10 feet further down the road. It's not meant to be deceiving. Notice the background mountains on each side of the road. It just barely clipped that one destroyed building out. No one is going for smoke and mirrors here.
Recently, I've heard several complaints about how late the sun rises. But I GUARANTEE that many more will complain about how early the sun sets in two weeks! 🌅🌇

For those of you that don't live in the Northeast, the "benchmark" we refer to during winter storm setups is the 70/40 latitude/longitude intersection. We tend to receive the max amount of snow from lows that track over it. A little west or east of that can make a big difference!
The

Thrilled to be joining the
@ABC6
family next week! Of course I'm missing what could quite possibly be the *biggest* snow of the winter tonight into tomorrow, but I'm sure I'll bring some flakes with me as we head into March! ❄️
WILD weather this past Saturday across the Northeast. A total of 8 confirmed tornadoes across Long Island (2 of them just missing my house and me) Connecticut & Rhode Island. Countless hail and wind damage reports. Staggering to see this in the summer months let alone November!
I went to school at Stony Brook University, about half a mile from Stony Brook village. This is what's left of its well-known pond by the Avalon nature preserve - all of the water completely sucked out from the flooding, as the road across it also collapsed! 😰
From
@BMcNoldy
: Did you know? For a 2-day forecast, the "cone of uncertainty" is 8% smaller in 2019 than it was last year. It's also 26% smaller than 2014, 39% smaller than a decade ago, and less than half the size of 15 years ago... that's progress!

YIKES. Brutal wind chill values in the Northeast as we head into the start of the workweek. Worst of it will be Tuesday morning with subzero feels! 🌬️🥶
Wondering why the radar is showing rain/snow, but nothing is falling at your house? That is because the air is so dry this morning that the lightest precipitation is evaporating before it hits the ground, fooling the radar - it's a weather phenomenon we call 'Virga'!

likely on Monday. This is a coastal storm, so snow amounts will taper off from south to north. 🌨️
Some mixing possible for E. Long Island & S. New Jersey. The shoreline will also have some gusty winds and coastal flooding concerns. 🌬️🌊
A rare meteorological phenomena called a heat burst occurred in Minnesota this morning.
As a thunderstorm weakens, its updraft becomes a downdraft. This can produces a quick, sharp increase in temperatures and decrease in humidity at the surface, along with gusty winds.
INCREDIBLE mammatus clouds over Sussex County NJ yesterday evening. I've never seen them so pronounced over our area. 😲
Thank you Jay Decker for sharing!
Coastal flooding at Gilgo Beach this morning. One resident said it’s only the third time in his 45 years there that he has seen the ocean meet the parking lot. Wild stuff. Video credit: Dr. Dino 🌊

Got it! We went down to the beach to get a good view as it was indeed very low in the sky. Tough to see with the naked eye, and the planets were setting fast, but was able to capture them with phone zoom.

I can't recall such a drastic water temp drop over the course of 48 hours, but this is what happens when you have well above average warmth and then a slow-moving, strong Nor'easter churning up the ocean. 12° drop recorded by the Great South Bay (LI) buoy, 10° in Nantucket! 🌊🌡️

Storm fatigue is real. I'm done. Is it spring yet?? 😩
This has the look of a classic 3-6"/4-8" storm, but with a change to mix/rain at night. Either way, winter continues to win. Stay tuned... 👀
❄️FIRST CALL SNOWFALL❄️
Greatest uncertainty is at the coast (Long Island and Jersey Shore) so some of these numbers may get tweaked in the coming days, but it is looking more and more likely we will get our biggest snowfall in quite a while!

We are now 2/3 through the month of February, and STILL no measurable snowfall across Long Island. 🚫❄️
This has only happened 3 times previously since records have been kept. I'm watching a few chances next week, but far from a guarantee. 👀
