Had a meeting with Bro. Stephen Cotton, the General Secretary International Transport Federation (ITF), and the representatives of the International Transport Federation at my office today. International Transport Federation is an important partner in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and has made invaluable contributions to Kenya's transport sector. Our meeting centered on strengthening the existing relationship and addressing current challenges for continued facilitation of operations in Kenya. ITF efforts have significantly improved working conditions, wages, and the overall rights of workers.

Delighted to meet H.E Ms. Daniejela Cubrilo Martic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Kenya to deliberate on various strategies to explore with the aim of complementing the demand and supply of labour between our two countries. We are looking to fast track the draft Agreement on Recruitment of Kenyan Workers to the Republic of Serbia. The Government is exploring various ways in which graduates can be economically empowered by sourcing for decent employment opportunities in Countries with high demand for Labour targeting the health, agriculture, building and construction, transportation, infrastructure, hospitality and homecare sectors among others.

It was a pleasure to meet H.E Mr. Mohammed bin MutairAl-Enazi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Kenya when he paid a courtesy call on me today. Kenya and Qatar enjoy good relations and especially being a preferred labour destination country for our migrant workers with 65,000 Kenyan workers in Qatar. There are opportunities for employment for teachers and nurses to work in Qatar as we already have a pool of qualified workers in the National Employment Authority. I’m happy to hear feedback from Balozi that Kenyans in Qatar are hardworking. We also talked about getting more job opportunities in the Aviation sector (Qatar Airways group), Public Transport system (Qatar Metro, Karwa Buses and Taxis, online food delivery services), medical Sector (Nurses & health care personnel in HamadHospital group, Sidra Hospital group, and other privately run facilities. We looked at having Job fares and meetings between the Private recruitment agencies from our two countries to better ensure our Kenyan unemployed youth are getting the right jobs.

Had a meeting with a team from the Directorate of Children Services in the State Department of Social Protection led by @PS_JosephMotari , PS State Department of Social Protection and Senior Citizens Affairs to go through the National Policy dialogue on Violence Against Children and implementation status. Kenya is a Pathfinder country with regard to Violence Against Children, meaning that Kenya has proven commitment to ending violence against children and has shown propensity to implement policy and practiced change at national level. I’m glad to note that data shows violence against children has reduced although a lot still needs to be done so as to completely end child violence by 2030.
