Today the University community gathered to dedicate a statue and scholarship in honor of our amazing alum Katherine Johnson. The statue will serve as a source of inspiration to current and future students of all that is possible through dedication, hard work and perseverance.
Dr. Nicole Pride has been selected by the Board of Governors to serve as the 12th President of West Virginia State University and is the first female president in our University’s history. We are excited to enter this new era of leadership at WVSU!

The university announced today nearly $2 million in upgrades to its football stadium that will include installation of an artificial turf field, lights and new bleachers.
This Friday is recognized as Katherine Johnson Day in West Virginia, in honor of the late Katherine Johnson, a WVSU alumna and West Virginia native, who became most known for calculating equations of NASA's orbital mission of Astronaut John Glenn in the 1960s.

Retired WVSU baseball coach Cal Bailey will be inducted into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame this year. Bailey retired in 2014 as the winningest all-sport college coach in state history.
Work on the project to place synthetic turf on the infield of Cal Bailey Field, home of the Yellow Jackets baseball team, is nearing completion. We can’t wait to see the Yellow Jackets in action back on this new infield when games are able to resume!

The WVSU Board of Governors unanimously voted Tuesday to ask the WV Higher Education Policy Commission to approve the University's proposal to offer Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degrees.
WVSU will launch a new Bachelor of Science degree in nursing beginning with the fall 2020 semester. The West Virginia Nursing Board gave their approval at a meeting today.

Earl Lloyd Day is today – celebrating the life and legacy of WVSU alum and basketball legend Earl Lloyd. A trailblazer in the truest sense of the word, Lloyd was the first African-American to play in an NBA game. He passed away on this day, Feb. 26, in 2015.

August 25, 2018 was a special day for WVSU and we're forever grateful that Katherine Johnson was able to return to campus for a statue dedication in her honor. Her memory will live on as she watches over our campus and inspires our students to dream bigger for years to come.

The university held an observance and wreath laying today to celebrate the life and legacy of alumna Katherine Johnson whose pioneering work at NASA helped America win the space race. The ceremony featured the awarding of three Katherine Johnson scholarships to STEM students.
Congratulations to WVSU alumnus and Charleston attorney Hollis Lewis on his appointment today to the West Virginia House of Delegates by Gov. Jim Justice. Lewis lettered in football at State and graduated with a degree in criminal justice.
