NASA ROCKET LAUNCH: Here is the timeline for today's SpaceX Rocket Launch.
We'll get a weather brief around noon and hear if they're gonna give it an attempt today.
SPOTTED: Manatee in the Lafayette River of Norfolk, VA!
While rare, we see a few sightings each yr recently. Last year, one was spotted in Newport News. Another was spotted in Wanchese in Dare Co., NC last week.

There's 3 ways this snow storm goes:
1. It overperforms and people are mad they got more snow than expected.
2. It underperforms and people are made they didn't get the snow they expected.
3. It performs exactly like we think and still, people are mad because it's 2018.
United Airlines flight 1097 spotted the balloon this morning over Asheville and reported it in a PIREP. PIREPs are ways pilots can notifiy fellow pilots about hazards, turbulence, icing, etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CAMPERS NEAR BMS:
It's likely we'll see some rises on creeks/streams overnight as heavy rain runs off. Be alert near Beaver Creek which runs through some of the campgrounds near

Some news to share.... After 6.5 years here, my wife and I are moving back home to where I grew up in Hampton Roads! In January I'll join the team at

I'm excited to cover hurricanes, severe weather and use my local knowledge of the area.
Our sister station, WCTI in New Bern, NC has been evacuated due to water rising around the building due to storm surge. Please keep them in your thoughts.
This is the Holly Beach, LA community,
While the homes are raised, the combination of surge and intense wave action will likely result in serious damage to these homes.
Holly Beach is not safe to be in tonight as
#Laura
approaches.
The eyewall of Hurricane Laura is approaching the Louisiana coast as an incredibly dangerous Category 4, borderline 5 hurricane with winds of 150 mph as of 9am.
No personal were injured but several helicopters were damaged in a severe tstorm this afternoon at NAS Norfolk. Looks like a few H60s.
Some of you may have seen the fire dept lights from the HRBT too.
Wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of you - the viewers for your support over the years. It's been a pleasure to communicate the weather in my own fun, nerdy way. I will miss the folks in the Tri-Cities, but you can stay in touch through social media!
I don't know why viewers sometimes expect a new meteorologist to be a copy of our previous meteorologist.
Everyone is unique, everyone presents things in their own way.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to be yourself. Don't try to be someone else.
Check out the snow pile they're making at ORF this morning as they clear the tarmac. Shout out to all the crews working hard on the roads (and at the airport)!
Today would have been my grandpa's 91st birthday. Through him, I got my love of aviation & airshows. He basically taught me to fly.
He served for 30 years in the USAF flying F-4s in Vietnam. He recieved the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Wright Brothers Award for his flying.
2 years together - She's the best partner you could ask for, supportive and understanding even when storm chances fall on our anniversary. Can't wait to make more memories as we go through life together.
The EF-3 tornado in VA Beach is the first tornado of that strength to hit the city on record. The last EF-3 to occur in Eastern VA were the Suffolk Tornado in 2008 and the James City/Gloucester tornado in 2011.
Map below shows prior EF-3 tornadoes. VB one not included yet.
A viewer, who is clearly having a bad day since I only see negative comments, keeps deleting their comments after I comment with a cute dog/cat pic to cheer them up. Odd.
Here's video as the hikers were walking off the mountain. I'm told they lost the trail, got caught in a snow drift and needed to be rescued. They called 911 and crews used their GPS coordinates to rescue them.
I enjoy the people who are like "you said only an inch on Monday!"
Well.. yes. Forecasts change?
It's like people expect to know who will win the race on Lap 1.
WATERSPOUT NEAR NORFOLK NAVAL/HRBT:
Check this out! Ellis Taylor captured a waterspout around 12:30 near the HRBT. A weak shower helped produce the waterspout, which forms thanks to warm air at the surface, cool air aloft and a weak rotation that develops from the surface up.
HAPPENING NOW: 3 historical markers are dedicated to the "Hidden Figures" - 3 inspirational and influential women who helped NASA break barriers and get to the moon.
FALCON HEAVY LAUNCH: In this photo you can see the center booster continuing up and the two side boosters doing boost back burns to return to the launch site.
BREAKING: I've confirmed a jet aircraft has run off the runway at the Elizabethton Airport. The airplane is on fire. My source tells me he believes everyone is okay.
Using the location of the
#ChineseSpyBalloon
near Asheville, NC this morning around 8:30am and an estimated height of 30,000 to 50,000 ft , a forward trajectory would suggest a track towards
#Charlotte
then off towards the SE coast of NC.
I'm tired of people accusing us of hyping things- so I've decided to just post pictures of cute puppies back to them.
NWS revised the number after looking at the sensor. Standard science procedure.
RISK UPGRADE: We are now in a LEVEL 2 risk for tornadoes Friday as the impacts from Ian move through our area. A few tornadoes will be possible Friday. Have a way to get weather warnings such as our FREE WAVY Weather app.
Who would have guessed??
My wife Allison was back in Bristol and went to Goodwill with a friend recently. Check out what she found 7 hrs away from Norfolk! Haha
